Mckesson's Sr. Cloud Platform Specialist design, build, configure, test, deploy, maintain, and support McKesson’s cloud services, platforms, and solutions. This is a hands-on, technically deep individual-contributor role that works directly in the Azure portal, applies a code- and automation-first approach, and uses AI and automation to improve reliability and eliminate manual effort. In addition to the engineering foundation, this role serves as a connective layer for the Cloud Platform organization-consolidating technical information across engineering, operations, architecture, and FinOps into clear, decision-ready reporting, and ensuring initiatives remain governed, compliant, and audit-ready in a regulated healthcare environment. Acts as a key contributor in a complex, business-critical environment; applies broad knowledge and strategic use of engineering concepts and practices to assignments of high complexity, including problems that may be undefined with many unknowns. Works with a high degree of autonomy and minimal direction; exercises significant latitude in determining objectives and anticipates and redirects efforts as conditions change. Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity, using judgment within broadly defined policies and practices. May serve as a subject matter expert; acts as a resource for less-experienced colleagues and may direct the work of others without formal management responsibility. Works across multiple cross-functional initiatives that may have system-wide impact and integrate across the enterprise.
Works hands-on in the Azure portal and across cloud platform services to design, configure, build, and operate the environment directly. Applies a code- and automation-first approach, using infrastructure-as-code, scripting, and CI/CD to build repeatable, reliable, and secure solutions (e.g., Terraform, Bicep/ARM, PowerShell, Python). Designs and implements AI- and automation-enabled capabilities (e.g., AIOps, intelligent workflows) that reduce manual effort and improve quality. Ensures adherence to enterprise policies, principles, cyber security protocols, and guardrails, including code documentation and source-control versioning.
Translates business and technical requirements into technical specifications, user stories, and solution designs, and determines their impact on existing architecture and processes. Consolidates and contextualizes requirements across multiple systems, platforms, and business domains, ensuring alignment with technical, security, and compliance standards. Communicates technical implications, constraints, and dependencies clearly to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Establishes and maintains governance, controls, and traceability for platform initiatives so that documentation, decisions, and approvals are complete and auditable. Supports compliance and audit readiness by tracking controls, evidence, access, and policy adherence across the cloud platform environment. Ensures technical standards, runbooks, and automation are current, consistent, and applied across the organization.
Anlyzes logs and metrics, monitors performance, and identifies opportunities for optimization, reliability, and cost efficiency. Consolidates information across engineering, operations, architecture, and FinOps into executive-ready reporting, dashboards, and a single source of truth. Applies AI-driven observability and analytics to detect anomalies, forecast capacity, and drive continuous improvement.
Acts as a central point of coordination that keeps cross-functional platform teams aligned on priorities, commitments, dependencies, and timelines. Contributes to short- and long-term planning with service leaders and delivery managers, providing input on options, risk, and cost/benefit trade-offs. Facilitates technical working sessions and reviews, capturing decisions, risks, and action items and driving them to closure.
Stays current on cloud, automation, and AI trends and adopts new tools and practices to advance the platform organization.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Typically 7+ years of relevant professional experience, with direct, hands-on responsibility for building and operating cloud environments.
