HOOPP, a leading pension plan for Ontario healthcare workers, is seeking a Senior Analyst in Investment Accounting & Reporting. You will manage general ledger activity and ensure accurate accounting for investments, applying GAAP and IFRS, while collaborating across Finance and Investment teams.

The role demands strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to process improvements, with a focus on audit readiness and clear documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field is required.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA is required or preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in financial services.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end reconciliations and ensure timely reporting.
  • Analyze monthly/quarterly results for reasonableness of investments and income.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for GL and audits.
  • Support audits with information and respond to questions from external auditors.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and document accounting policies.
  • Collaborate with IT and Finance teams on investment accounting systems.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Accounting & Reporting, the Senior Analyst, Investment Accounting & Reporting is responsible for the General Ledger and performing accounting and reporting functions for all investments of HOOPP (except Real Estate, Private Equities, and Infrastructure). The Senior Analyst is required to apply Canadian GAAP and IFRS technical knowledge and analytical skills in ensuring the completeness and accuracy of financial records for all investments (except Real Estate, Private Equities, and Infrastructure). This incumbent is expected to build strong working relationships with other departments within Finance as well as other Divisions such as Investment Management, Risk and Information Technology, to ensure accurate accounting of investment activities in the General Ledger.

What You Will Do
  • Perform month-end reconciliations on a timely basis to comply with monthly and quarterly reporting timelines.
  • Analyze financial results on a monthly and quarterly basis to assess reasonability and fluctuations of HOOPP's investments and income.
  • Recommend the correction of investment transactions to Investment Operations to ensure accurate information in the investment accounting system (SimCorp Dimension).
  • Collaborate with the Business Process team in analyzing the impact of new investments or investment strategies and operational impacts of new investments or strategies.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional initiatives and projects as they impact Investment Accounting and Reporting including reviewing IT Business Analyst testing and performing user acceptance testing of IT's solution where required.
  • Prepare, where necessary, manual journal entries to the General Ledger with appropriate analysis and audit-ready supporting documentation.
  • Prepare detailed month-end and year-end working papers with appropriate analysis and supporting documentation for financial reporting and audit purposes.
  • Assist in the interim and year-end audits by providing information requested by and responding to questions from external auditors.
  • Assist the Senior Manager with the preparation of complex financial statements disclosure notes as they relate to investments, including assessing the impact and application of any new accounting policies.
  • Collaborate with the Business Process team on process improvement opportunities to workflow and processes (system and non-system related). Independently lead the early stages of initiatives by identifying, assessing and proposing opportunities for improvements, automation or enhanced controls.
  • Maintain and update internal Finance investment accounting policies and ICFR narratives to ensure that they are current and up to date. Collaborate with Business Process team on the regular review and update of accounting treatment papers and operating procedures.
  • Actively participate in HOOPP's ICFR program by assisting in the identification and documentation of risks and controls.
  • Assess the accounting, reporting, control, and system implications of complex or non-standard investment transactions, and document conclusions and recommendations for management review.
  • Investigate and resolve ad hoc issues as they arise, proactively work with and communicate with other teams as a point of contact and subject matter expert for Investment Accounting and Reporting matters.
What You Will Bring
  • University degree in Business or related discipline
  • Successful completion of an accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting for the financial services sector, with proven experience working on large cross-functional projects and/or teams
  • Knowledge of accounting standards & principles (GAAP and IFRS)
  • The incumbent must possess working knowledge of accounting principles with respect to derivative instruments and marketable securities
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with demonstrated sense of judgement and experience
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness is very important along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Highly results oriented, with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines and to manage conflicting priorities. Collaborative, professional, accountable, and trustworthy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Highly organized, with strong documentation and follow-up skills to support clear communication, audit readiness, and effective issue resolution.

The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $103,000 - $153,000 CAD

The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
