Some of what you will do:
Be responsible to provide timely and accurate financial information to the management team, prepare monthly financial package, perform monthly account reconciliations and various other month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities. Work closely with our shared service customers and other functional groups to gather their inputs and provide support. Specifically, You Will:
Reporting, Analysis and Reconciliations
- Perform month-end closing activities, including the preparation, review and posting of journal entries and account reconciliations as assigned.
- Perform monthly account analyses as assigned.
- Work closely with the business, including the stores, to resolve issues in their respective P&L or cost centre(s).
- Provide meaningful analysis, in-depth review and commentary on monthly/quarterly/annual financials and comparisons to prior periods for areas assigned.
- Provide supplementary and ad‑hoc reporting / analysis as required.
- Resolve issues related to account reconciliations and analyses by working with the various departments (i.e. HR, Legal, IT, Marketing, Store Operations, Real Estate, etc.).
- Assist in the preparation of supplementary schedules and analysis for financial reporting (Management/Tax Filings/Stats Canada Reporting).
- Keep team apprised of unexpected or uncontrollable circumstances that may impact reporting timelines.
- Identify and execute process improvements for existing month end activities and reconciliations.
- Partner with various individuals within finance and the business to improve controls and efficiency.
- Evaluate, recommend and implement processes to enhance internal controls with a risk and controls mindset.
- Other work as required.
Internal and External Communications
- Establish relationships with various internal and external parties providing support as required.
- Work closely with our shared service customers to gather their inputs and provide support.
- Provide support to tax team for tax filings and provisions.
- Provide support to and liaise with the external auditors and keep Manager apprised of issues.
- Provide support to and information as required by government agencies with regards to input tax credit filings and audits.
- Communicate with the finance team and manage workload to ensure timelines outlined for the month end closing activities are met.
- Contribute towards a continuous improvement mindset within the finance team.
Projects
- Participate in projects to provide functional expertise and recommendations.
- Participate in projects for upgrade rollouts and system implementation(s), including requirements gathering, user acceptance testing, etc.
Some of what you need:
- University degree or equivalent in accounting, business, finance or a related field.
- Professional accounting designation.
- Minimum of 3+ years of progressive accounting / finance experience.
- Supervisory experience is an asset.
- CPA designation.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of financial systems. Experience with Oracle is an asset.
- Audit and controls experience are an asset.
- A commitment to improvement, providing and implementing recommendations.
- Ability to work under tight month end timelines.
- Strong / advanced Excel skills.
- Resourceful and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Aptitude and desire to grow within the Finance team.
