Job summary

Sun Life seeks a SQL Server Infrastructure Database Administrator to modernize our database footprint across Canada and the US. You will lead infrastructure projects, automate deployments, and ensure resilient, scalable SQL Server environments with AlwaysOn and DR planning.

The role includes 24/7 on-call rotation and collaboration with distributed teams. You will build automated pipelines, uphold best practices, and work with DevOps to integrate cutting-edge tools.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science or related IT field.
• 2–3+ years experience with SQL Server and data modeling.
• Hands-on experience with AlwaysOn, replication, log shipping, and DR strategies.
• Experience provisioning SQL Server with Terraform or Ansible.
• Advanced PowerShell for automation and validation at scale.
• Familiarity with AWS EC2/RDS and cloud integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead SQL Server projects from concept to deployment including releases and security upgrades.
• Design automated database deployment pipelines and integrate DevOps practices.
• Deploy robust SQL Server environments (standalone, FCI, AlwaysOn) with confidence.
• Create and maintain operational best practices, documentation and standards.
• Architect backup/restore strategies and validate recoverability across environments.
• Monitor, diagnose and tune database performance using modern tools and AI-powered suggestions.
• Collaborate with leads and IT teams to deliver seamless database services.
• Drive continuous improvements and champion innovative solutions.
