Job summary

Startec Compression & Process is seeking a B-Pressure Welder for our Shepard Shop in Calgary, AB, on a night shift (4:20 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.). The successful candidate will weld pipe spools to applicable codes and specifications in a fast-paced, detail-oriented shop environment.

Qualifications include a B-Pressure Journeyman Welder certificate and 2+ years of spooling or vessel welding experience. You must work independently, be safety‑minded, and communicate effectively with team members, fitters,

Qualifications

• B-Pressure Journeyman Welder certificate is required.
• 2+ years of experience in spooling and/or vessel welding.
• Ability to work independently, efficiently and safely in a fast-paced shop environment.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings and specifications to ensure quality welds and alignment of work.
• Utilize SMAW, GMAW, MCAW, GTAW welding processes.
• Layout, fit, and weld components of piping spools.
• Weld within the parameters of weld procedures.
• Collaborate with fitters and Quality Control and participate in project reviews with engineering and drafting teams.

Position overview

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a B-Pressure Welder to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). Reporting to the Spooling Supervisor the successful candidate will be required to weld pipe spools to various codes and specifications within a fast-paced, detail-oriented shop environment. Shift Details: 4:20 p.m. -2:30 a.m.

Qualifications

• B- Pressure Journeyman Welder certificate required
• 2+ years experience in spooling and/or vessel welding
• Ability to work independently, efficiently, and safely in a fast-paced shop environment
• Be an active participant in the company’s safety program
• Good communication skills, both written and oral
• Successful completion of a pre-employment functional
• Successful completion of a Pre-employment drug and alcohol test

Key performance indicators (KPI)

Welding

• Read and interpret company and customer-supplied drawings and specifications to ensure quality welds and alignment of work performed.
• SMAW / GMAW / MCAW / GTAW weld processes
• Read and interpret welding process specifications.
• Layout, Fit, and weld components of piping spools
• Weld within parameters of weld procedures

Safety

• Maintain a safe work environment
• Rig materials and equipment, utilizing overhead and jib cranes safely and effectively.
• Participate in safety and company programs to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
• Work collaboratively with fitters and Quality Control
• Engage in project reviews with engineering and drafting teams to align on technical specifications and timelines.
