Job description
Overview

You’ll join the newly formed Resources Team, consisting of a Team Leader, six Resource Workers, and a SPO A. As a new team, there is an opportunity to shape how you work together, support one another, and build a strong, inclusive team culture. You’ll collaborate with other Ministry service delivery teams in the building and with community partners to provide permanency options for children and youth in care.

You’ll work in an Out of Care Worker / Resource Worker role, supporting caregivers to assess placements that help create safe, stable homes for children and youth. Your work contributes to providing a sense of permanency and belonging for young people in care. As part of a new team, you’ll shape how the work is done, take ownership of your contributions, and build strong relationships with local Bands and communities.

Responsibilities

In the Out of Care Worker / Resource Worker role, you will:

  • Work closely with caregivers to provide support and assess placements that create safe, stable homes for children and youth.
  • Contribute to permanency and belonging for youth in care.
  • Shape team processes and foster strong relationships with local Bands and communities.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

1. Preferred Credentials
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under CFCSA OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when registered and in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a confirmed registration application.

NOTE: If education was obtained outside Canada, it must be assessed for equivalency through ICES with a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date.

2. Expanded Credentials
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER completing an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience
  • Other combinations may be considered

Note: If education was obtained outside Canada, ICES equivalency applies with a basic report by the closing date.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, or Nursing.

Preferences
  • Preference for applicants with preferred credentials AND/OR in-service MCFD employees with a regular SPO 24-30 base position under CFCSA.
  • Preferences may be given to those with Kinship Assessment Tool (KAT) training and experience, SAFE home study certification, and RAP experience of training.
  • Eligible for delegation under CFCSA or CFSCA; candidates who currently hold or are immediately eligible for C3 delegation; experience providing caregiver supports; experience with Indigenous children, youth, and families; self-identification as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit with the required education/experience.

Please note:

  • Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but can provide a letter from their educational institution confirming degree completion.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction.

There are two full-time permanent positions available, one in Fort St. John and one in Dawson Creek. Flexible work options may allow up to 2 days at home per week with an approved telework agreement. An eligibility list may be established. A Criminal Record Check and CRRA will be required. BC Public Service employees must be located in BC at the time of employment.
