Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to work at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders, and delivering client education and counseling.

You will contribute to interdisciplinary rounds, risk management and research while mentoring new staff and students in a dynamic hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Broad knowledge of evidence based practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience delivering presentations and counselling to clients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat the full range of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Complete client reports, educate clients and families, provide counselling and consultation.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, risk management, and research.
  • Provide leadership to new employees and SLP students.

Job description

Come work as a Speech Language Pathologist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC!

Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) is one of the 4 busiest hospitals in Vancouver, and one of only five Neurosurgery centers in British Columbia. LGH is located in North Vancouver which is internationally known for hiking and skiing trails in the forested mountains.

Within the context of a client/family service culture and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and the vision and values of Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, this position assesses, diagnoses and treats the full range of communication and swallowing disorders. Completes client reports, educates clients/family, provides counselling and consultation, and presents lectures. Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds, risk management and research, and provides leadership to new employees and Speech-Language Pathology students.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
