Job summary

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to deliver high-quality services within the Communication Disorders team at WRHA Corporate - Access Transcona. You will work in person, in a 0.90 FTE role, with days shifts and 7.75 hours daily, contributing to prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of speech and swallowing disorders.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, CASLPM registration, and relevant advanced

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university.
  • CASLPM advanced competency certification preferred in relevant areas (e.g., VFSS, tracheostomy, FEES).
  • Must be registered with CASLPM; SAC or ASHA membership encouraged.
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive Speech-Language Pathology services including prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Educate and supervise students and professionals; consult with other health professionals.
  • Engage in research and maintain professional accountability and collaboration.
  • Assist in referrals and provide education to clients and families.

Position Overview

Provides quality Speech-Language Pathology services, consistent with discipline and professional standards, including: prevention, identification, evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, counselling, treatment, management and education of communication and swallowing disorders; education and supervision of students and professionals; consultation with and referral to other professionals; and research. Maintains professional accountability, professional judgment and reasoning with a high-level of communication and collaboration.

Experience
  • Previous experience with relevant population is preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited/recognized university is required.
SPECIAL TRAINING
  • CASLPM advanced competency certification in one or more relevant areas is preferred, dependent on the needs of the site/program (e.g., VFSS, tracheostomy, FEES).
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM). Membership in other professional organizations is encouraged; for example, Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) or the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Completion of, and ongoing participation in relevant courses, workshops, etc. to address continuing education requirements of CASLPM and specialization required for service provision.
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/staff/visitors.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
