A local governmental health authority in Manitoba is seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to assess and treat children with speech and language difficulties. Speech and Language Therapist (Special schools and ARP)

Toassess children and develop/implement specialist speech and language therapytreatment to ensure that the Council achieves its strategic aims for allpupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Towork as a member of the Merton Speech and Language Therapy Service and SENDISand so contribute to building the capacity of Merton Schools to include pupilswith SEN and disabilities.

Tocontribute to the LB Merton policy and approach to raising achievement andestablishing provision for all pupils, including those with special educationalneeds and disabilities.

Main duties of the job

Assess, diagnose and plan anddeliver interventions for pupils in special schools, ARPs and other settingswith a range of speech and language needs including: language delay, languagedisorder; speech delay, speech disorder,, social communication differences anddisorders; speech and language difficulties related to hearing impairment,alternative communication, and global delay.

To provide appropriate specialistintervention and evaluated outcomes.

To provide the specialist speechand language therapy report for statutory assessment. These reports wouldinclude clinical judgements about the level of provision and appropriateeducational setting attached to the pupils statutory assessment

To defend your clinicaljudgements on behalf of the local authority at tribunal and evaluate andcomment at tribunal on the specialist evidence submitted by the opposing party.This may also include professional evaluation of proposed provisions.

To provide advice, training andsupport to colleagues in a stipulated area of specialism e.g.

Developmental Language Disorder

Social Emotional and Mental Health

Additional, Complex and /or Severe Learning Difficulties

Autistic Spectrum Disorder

To provide a stipulatedspecialist SLT service to schools and special settings, offering advice andsupport to colleagues in developing inclusive provision, either formallythrough consultation and training or through direct work in schools andsettings.

Job responsibilities

To support specific servicedevelopment priorities in line with the SEN & Inclusion Strategy.

To deliver statutory Speech andLanguage Therapy in special school,mainstream and/or additionally resourcedprovisions (ARPS) within specialist area of skill within the parameters anddesired outcomes for the Council.

To work in partnership with theMerton Speech and Language Therapy Managers for the purpose of servicedevelopment and to be part of a workforce committed to raising attainment forpupils in Merton schools through inclusive education.

To supervise band 5 therapistsonce probation/competencies are completed.

To undertake all duties andinteractions with colleagues, partner providers and customers fairly, withoutunlawful discrimination and with due regard to the Councils Diversity andEquality in Employment and Service Delivery policies.

To carry out duties andresponsibilities in accordance with the Councils Core Values, EqualOpportunities Policy, Health and Safety Policy and all other borough anddepartmental policies and procedures, in particular the non-smoking policy andconfidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act.
