Job Title: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (Temporary Contract)
Reports to: Senior Manager and Clinical Lead - Speech, Language and Hearing Services
Responsibilities
ASSESS STUDENTS AND INTERPRET RESULTS:
- Provide individualized assessment to students referred for speech, language, and communication needs using measures that are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive.
- Interpret assessment results and share findings and recommendations with the student\'s caregivers and school staff using a strengths-based approach.
PLAN, ORGANIZE AND IMPLEMENT INTERVENTIONS:
- Collaborate with school staff and school support teams to contribute to educational planning to support students\' with speech, language and communication needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions (whole class, small group, individual), model strategies, and coach educators in the classroom to build capacity and support student growth and access to the curriculum.
DOCUMENT AND COLLECT DATA:
- Complete written reports in a timely manner
- Document contact notes and maintain confidential files and records in accordance with professional regulations and standards
INSTRUCT AND GUIDE:
- Model and demonstrate effective communication strategies to educators and parents
- Develop and deliver in-services, workshops and / or presentations for educators, administrators, caregivers and community partners as required
ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE:
- Engage in professional development activities independently, with the department, and with the board to stay current with evidence-based practices
COLLABORATE WITH OUTSIDE AGENCIES:
- Liaise with and refer to community services and agencies (e.g., Grandview Kids\' School-Based Rehabilitation Services)
Other duties as assigned by the manager of Speech Language Services
Qualifications and Skills
- Specialized training to support students in an educational setting (e.g., knowledge of language, literacy and communication development, communication underlying behavior, structured teaching principles, high- and / or low-tech augmentative and alternative communication systems); prior experience in coaching-based intervention settings is an asset
- Ability to use a variety of technological platforms including Microsoft and Google; knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices in the field of Speech-Language Pathology
- Knowledge of current CASLPO standards and requirements of SLPs, including CASLPO\'s Clinical Reasoning Tool
- Knowledge of Board policies and procedures (e.g. Health and safety, cultural competency and meeting the needs of diverse populations)
- Strong communication skills (oral / written)
- Comfortable presenting to adults
- Organizational, prioritization and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders
Education
- Completion of a master\'s degree in Speech Language Pathology or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent by CASLPO.
- Current CASLPO registration.
- Valid Ontario driver\'s license and insurance. This position requires you to travel to various locations within the DDSB during the workday.
Experience
- Supervision by licensed Speech Language Pathologist in initial employment post-graduation preferred. (CASLPO requires 6 months supervision).
- Experience in clinical and / or educational pediatric settings is an asset.
