Job description
Position Summary

Currently accepting applications for the January 2026 program intake. We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join the team in the Emergency department at the GR Baker Memorial Hospital.

Reporting to the Program Manager of Critical Care and Surgery, the staff nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and nursing practice activities within the framework of quality management and in accordance with the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice and Northern Health Mission, Vision and Values statement.

Training Program (REDEP/HAU)
  • The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized, evidence-informed online curriculum offered by Elsevier, Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO).
  • REDEP combines ENO online curriculum with a skills/simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care at a novice level.
  • Upon completion of REDEP education, learners transition into the Northern Health Critical Care Program - High Acuity Unit (NHCCP-HAU). This education uses the Essentials in Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) online curriculum with a clinical practicum for novice-level care in a High Acuity Unit.
  • There are 3 training positions available for 2025/2026.
  • Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required.
  • Successful candidates may be required to complete prerequisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position.
  • Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, including online and in-person learning.
  • Additional study time outside scheduled hours will be required to successfully complete the program.
  • Flexibility for practicums is necessary.
  • Prior experience on an acute care ward (medical/surgical) is preferred.
  • Must have completed Heart and Stroke BLS in the last 6 months.
  • Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP.
  • Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department.
  • Upon successful completion, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
  • Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training provided.
