Job summary

A respite care service provider in Northeastern Ontario is seeking a Specialized Respite Worker to support children and young adults with disabilities. Responsibilities include providing in-home and centre-based care, assisting with personal needs, and fostering social development. Candidates should have relevant certifications and experience working with children. A valid driver's license and a clean CPIC check are required for the role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience with children.
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Clean CPIC with vulnerable sector check.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Provide in‑home and in‑centre respite care to children, teens and young adults aged 0‑30 who are autistic, have Down syndrome and/or a variety of other developmental and physical disabilities.
  • Support and manage diverse needs and difficult behaviours and/or complex situations with the support of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Engage in and assist clients in sensory play, communication and social interactions.
  • Provide 1:1, 2:1 or 1:3 support for clients in home, at our centre and at community partnership events and ensure a positive impact on your clients mental, emotional, spiritual and/or physical well‑being and social development.
  • Support client’s personal care needs including eating, dressing and toileting (diaper changes).
  • Required to be able to meet all physical and mental demands involved in the client’s care (lifting, bending, repetitive tasks, and high emotional situations etc.).
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with families and clients.
  • Maintain an environment that protects and prioritizes the health and safety of the client and fellow team members.
Qualifications
  • Experience working as either a DSW (Certificate), CYC (Certificate), EA (Intensive support classroom experience an asset), RECE or respite worker (minimum 2 years experience with children).
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills in English, French an asset.
  • Clean CPIC with vulnerable sector check within the last 6 months (Mandatory and at candidates’ expense).
