Job summary

Bell Canada is seeking a highly versatile Specialized Physical Infrastructure and IP Telephony Technician in a hybrid role based in Canada. You will design, install, and manage physical network infrastructure and provide Level 2/3 support for Cisco IP telephony solutions.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in IT, 5 years of structured cabling and IP telephony experience, and strong diagramming skills in Visio. A French language proficiency is required for Quebec-based roles.

Qualifications

  • Education: Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) in Information Technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of general IT experience.
  • At least five years designing and implementing structured cabling (copper and fiber).
  • Lead for cabling work on at least five projects with coordination with other trades.
  • Completed computer room setup or reconfiguration projects (at least five).
  • Experience in network cabinet installations including switches, servers, and UPS systems.
  • At least three years of specialized telephony tech experience in a large-scale environment.
  • Two years of Level 2/3 Cisco IP telephony support experience.
  • Hands-on use of Microsoft Visio for diagrams and documentation.
  • Adequate knowledge of French for Quebec positions.

Responsibilities

  • Physical Infrastructure and Structured Cabling: design and deploy cabling installations per industry standards.
  • Lead cabling projects and coordinate with stakeholders on-site.
  • Oversee computer room setups and reconfigurations for telecom facilities.
  • Install and rack equipment in network cabinets (switches, servers, UPS).
  • IP Telephony Operations: provide Level 2/3 support and advanced troubleshooting for Cisco IP telephony.
  • Process service requests related to telephony infrastructure and document changes.

Summary

We are seeking a highly versatile Specialized Physical Infrastructure and IP Telephony Technician. This resource will play a critical hybrid role by ensuring both the design, installation, and management of the network’s physical infrastructure (structured cabling, computer room setup) and the operation and advanced technical support of IP telephony solutions. The ideal candidate will be capable of leading on-site physical infrastructure projects while providing Level 2 and Level 3 support for telephony communication systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Physical Infrastructure and Structured Cabling
  • Network Deployment: Design and perform structured Ethernet (copper) and fiber optic cabling installations in strict compliance with industry standards (IEEE 802.3, TIA 568, and TIA 569).
  • Physical Project Management: Act as the lead for cabling activities during projects, ensuring smooth coordination with stakeholders and other trades working on‑site.
  • Computer Room Setup: Lead projects involving the setup or reconfiguration of computer rooms and telecommunications/interconnection facilities.
  • Equipment Installation: Perform rack mounting, physical installation, and connection of equipment in network cabinets, including switches, servers, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and related hardware.
  • 2. IP Telephony Operations and Support
  • Technical Support (Level 2 and 3): Provide operational support, advanced troubleshooting, and resolution of complex issues related to Cisco IP telephony solutions and their associated technologies.
  • Request Management: Process and fulfill day‑to‑day service requests related to telephony infrastructure.
  • 3. Documentation and Diagramming
  • Design and Documentation: Create, document, and maintain network diagrams, cabling plans, and telephony architecture using Microsoft Visio.
Critical Qualifications
  • Education: Hold a recognized college‑level Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) in Information Technology, recognized by the Ministry of Education (or an equivalent qualification recognized under government standards).
  • Overall IT Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of general experience in the field of Information Technology.
  • Physical Infrastructure Expertise
  • At least five (5) years of experience designing and implementing structured cabling projects (copper and fiber).
  • Experience serving as the lead for cabling work on at least five (5) projects involving coordination with other trades.
  • Completion of at least five (5) computer room setup or reconfiguration projects.
  • Participation in at least five (5) equipment installation projects involving network cabinets, including switches, servers, and UPS systems.
  • IP Telephony Expertise
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a specialized telephony technician in a large‑scale environment.
  • At least two (2) years of specific experience in the operation and troubleshooting (Level 2 and Level 3 support) of Cisco IP telephony solutions.
  • Design and Documentation Tools
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience using Microsoft Visio to create and maintain network diagrams and documentation.

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
