Barry Callebaut Manufacturing Iberica SA. is seeking a Food Safety Specialist to be the technical owner of the plant's food safety programs, reporting to the Plant QA Manager.

You will implement and maintain food safety programs, verify controls, and collaborate with Operations, Sanitation, Engineering, R&D, and Quality teams to strengthen program execution and culture. The role requires HACCP training, 3–5 years in food safety, and knowledge of GFSI standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Engineering, or related discipline is required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in food safety or quality in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of GFSI-recognized standards, ideally FSSC 22000 or BRCGS.
  • HACCP training is required; PCQI certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain HACCP/Food Safety Plan and prerequisite programs.
  • Lead food safety hazard assessments and support process changes.
  • Manage Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) and CCP/OPRP requirements.
  • Oversee allergen control, sanitation, hygiene, and pest management.
  • Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and drive CAPAs.
  • Conduct food safety assessments, verification, and training programs.
  • Support audits, inspections, and certification activities.
  • Promote GMPs and food safety best practices on site.

Job description

About the role:

The Food Safety Specialist reports to the Plant QA Manager and serves as the technical owner of the site's food safety programs. The role is responsible for implementing and maintaining food safety programs and controls in accordance with Barry Callebaut's global and regional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable customer requirements.

The incumbent provides technical food safety expertise, verifies the effectiveness of controls, identifies and escalates emerging risks, and collaborates with Operations, Sanitation, Engineering, R&D, and Quality teams to strengthen food safety program execution and foster a strong food safety culture across the site.

Key Responsabilities :
  • Own and maintain the site's HACCP Plan / Food Safety Plan and associated prerequisite programs.
  • Implement and maintain site food safety programs, procedures, and controls in compliance with global, regional, regulatory, and applicable customer requirements.
  • Lead food safety hazard assessments and provide technical support for process, product, equipment, or operational changes.
  • Manage the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP).
  • Govern CCP and OPRP requirements and activities.
  • Oversee the site's allergen control program requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight of sanitation programs, hygiene practices, and pest management activities.
  • Investigate food safety incidents and trends and support root cause analysis, as well as corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct food safety assessments and verification activities.
  • Lead or coordinate food safety training programs for employees.
  • Maintain food safety program records and documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and certification activities.
  • Monitor food safety performance and support site improvement plans.
  • Support the deployment and sustainment of global and regional food safety programs, including Non-Negotiable Standards (NNS).
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Sanitation, R&D, and Quality teams on activities that may impact food safety.
  • Promote GMPs and food safety best practices through active floor presence and employee coaching.
About you :
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years or more of experience in food safety or quality within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of GFSI-recognized standards, ideally FSSC 22000 or BRCGS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sanitation, allergen management, pest control, and GMP programs.
  • HACCP training required; PCQI certification or another relevant certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, risk assessment, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication, training, and influencing skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Curious, analytical, and proactive approach.
  • Ability to challenge practices when food safety may be at risk.
  • French and english required to interact with colleagues on site and corporate teams.
