About the role

Join the Technology and Business Transformation Team, in the Specialist, Software Engineering position, where the next generations of software applications are being developed to enable CMHC to achieve its mission. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of innovative software solutions. You will act as a point of contact for all stakeholders to ensure business requirements are understood and met, all while supporting continuous improvement through CMHC’s systems.

What you’ll do
  • Collaborate directly with the client community to understand their system needs, document current and future business processes, and guide them through proposed solutions and their implications.
  • Maintain and modernize legacy and mainframe applications using technologies like C#.NET, VB.NET, ASP.NET, COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL.
  • Build cloud-native and .NET solutions, automate routine tasks, and optimize SQL and batch processes for performance and reliability.
  • Translate ideas into action by authoring clear and comprehensive technical specifications and diagrams for both new and existing solutions.
  • Participate actively in testing, defect resolution, and deployment activities to ensure smooth delivery and high-quality outcomes.
  • Implement strong security measures, access controls, and compliance standards to protect applications and data. Stay current with Azure cloud innovations, best practices, and industry trends to continuously enhance system capabilities.
What you should have
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field—or a combination of education and experience that proves you’re ready to lead.
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on experience designing, building, testing, and deploying Azure cloud solutions that scale and perform.
  • Deep technical knowledge of C#.NET, ASP.NET, VB.NET, and mainframe technologies like COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL.
  • Strong SQL skills and a solid grasp of relational database design and optimization.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python and PowerShell to automate and streamline tasks.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms—especially Microsoft Azure—and a readiness to explore new features and best practices.
  • Comfort with version control tools like VSTS and GIT, and a solid understanding of MVC architecture and object‑oriented programming principles.
  • A growth mindset—eager to learn, adapt, and evolve through continuing professional development.

  • Knowledge of advanced mainframe processes and legacy system modernization.
