Job summary

CPKC is hiring a Specialist Network Operations in Calgary, AB. You will provide comprehensive operational support for network services, including firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, DHCP/DNS, SIP, SNMP, and ISP infrastructure across Canada, the US, and Mexico.

The role requires 5+ years with enterprise F5 and Firewall implementations, strong troubleshooting skills, and collaboration with vendors and end users to ensure secure, reliable connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience with enterprise F5 and Firewall implementations.
• Solid experience solving with end users & vendors on F5, Firewall and Internet services.
• In-depth knowledge of IP protocol conversion.
• Cisco, Palo Alto and F5 certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle and configure firewall, load balancers, VPN, DHCP, SIP, SNMP, and ISP infrastructure across Canada, the US, and Mexico.
• Provide expert technology consultation for application and infrastructure projects with experience in Cisco ASA/FTD, Palo Alto, F5 and Infoblox.
• Resolve complex LAN/WAN/Internet outages (Severity 1) with cross-team collaboration.
• Recommend tech solutions aligning with architecture and vendor standards.
• Create models to demonstrate proposed architecture and design changes.
• Develop documentation and guide users on F5, firewall, and Internet services.
• Engage with F5 and firewall vendors for issue resolution and DR planning.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Specialist Network Operations will provide comprehensive operational support for a wide array of network services, ensuring seamless and secure connectivity. Our expertise encompasses the management and maintenance of vital components such as firewalls for robust security, load balancers for optimized traffic distribution, and VPNs for secure remote access. This position will handle DHCP and DNS services to maintain dynamic and reliable network configuration and name resolution. Additionally, our proficiency extends to SIP for reliable VoIP communications, SNMP for efficient network monitoring, and the maintenance of ISP infrastructure to guarantee optimal Internet connectivity.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Handle and configure the firewall, load balancers, VPN, DHCP, SIP, SNMP, and ISP infrastructure across Canada, the US, and Mexico
• Provide expert technology consultation for various application and infrastructure projects with extensive experience in Cisco ASA/FTD, Palo Alto, F5, and Infoblox.
• Solve complex LAN/WAN/Internet-related outages, including Severity 1 issues, in collaboration with architecture, Design, and Project teams
• Recommend technological solutions to address business challenges and work with CPKC's Network Services vendors to ensure solutions align with defined architecture and standard
• Create models to demonstrate proposed architecture and design changes
• Develop documentation and guide users on the interaction and functionality of F5, firewall, and internet services
• Engage with F5 and firewall vendors for issue resolution, ensuring timely use of contingency and failover options and aiding in IT Disaster Recovery Plan development

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or a related field is preferred
• 5+ years of applicable experience working with enterprise F5 and Firewall implementations
• Solid experience and demonstrable ability to solve with end users & vendors on F5, Firewall and Internet services
• In-depth knowledge of IP protocol conversion
• Cisco, Palo Alto and F5 certifications preferred

Management Conductor Program
