Qualifications

• Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License in good standing; MTO Driver's Abstract required.
• Master’s Degree in Science with a focus on geomorphology / GIS and / or river restoration is strongly preferred.
• Registered as a G.I.T. or P.Geo., or eligible for membership with APEG Ontario would be an asset.
• Basic RPAS license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in geomorphology and erosion hazard management.
• Assist with specialized technical studies such as sediment budgets and stream power modelling.
• Conduct geomorphic fieldwork using survey equipment including bedload samplers, flow monitors, automatic water samplers, drones and RTK/total station surveying.
• Coordinate and conduct geomorphic monitoring including installation and maintenance of stream monitoring sites.
• Develop watershed restoration techniques within the CVC jurisdiction across scales.
• Assist in feasibility studies, prioritization, and conceptual designs of river and wetland restoration projects.
• Provide technical support to plan review engineering services on development applications.
• Work on GIS data management tasks and terrain analysis for technical studies.
• Set up and run GIS models and produce digital maps for geomorphology projects.
• Prepare reports and manage project design, work plans, budgets and cost accounting.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Credit Valley Conservation seeks a Specialist, Geomorphology to manage erosion, investigate sediment transport processes, and support river and wetland restoration projects across the Credit River watershed.

This is an opportunity to work on a broad range of projects across CVC relating to geomorphic processes. Work will be undertaken from watershed scale assessments to detailed site characterization and monitoring. By leveraging a strong foundation in geomorphic principles and tools you will be at the cutting edge of erosion hazard management. By employing approaches such as natural channel design, floodplain reconnection, and bioengineering, you will help mitigate erosion and flood hazards, enhance climate resilience, and restore self-sustaining river systems. By supporting review of development applications, you will ensure compliance with erosion hazard policies.

The position involves desk-based studies and analysis, conceptual design, report writing and map production. Fieldwork will be required for a range of projects, including site characterization, hazard assessments and monitoring. The ideal candidate will have a very strong background in GIS and manipulation of digital datasets.

• Basic RPAS license preferred

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS

• Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in geomorphology and erosion hazard management and equipment to support Authority’s objectives.
• Assist with specialized technical studies such as sediment budgets and stream power modelling.
• Conduct geomorphic fieldwork using a range of survey and field equipment including bedload samplers, flow monitors, automatic water samplers, drones and RTK and total station survey equipment.
• Coordinate and conduct geomorphic monitoring including installation, verification and maintenance of stream monitoring sites. Required to work in the field including off hours and inclement weather conditions.
• Develop and enhance the understanding of watershed restoration techniques within the CVC jurisdiction (at the catchment scale, reach scale and site scale).
• Assist in the completion of feasibility studies, prioritization, and conceptual designs of river and wetland restoration projects.
• Provide technical support to plan review engineering services - review Planning Act, Conservation Authority Act and other development related applications from a geomorphology and erosion hazard management perspective, as needed with support of senior staff.
• Work on a range of GIS data management tasks, such as digitization, data conversions and terrain analysis for technical studies.
• Set up and run GIS models.
• Digital map production and GIS analysis for geomorphology projects.
• Report writing, including technical and plain language documents.
• Project coordination, including project design, work plan development, budget preparation, and cost-accounting.
