Job summary

Toyotetsu Canada Inc. is seeking a Welding Engineering Specialist to maintain plant programs for GMAW, spot welding and projection welding cells, driving efficiency and reliability end-to-end.

This role leads design, procurement and installation of equipment, writes specs, coordinates cross‑functional teams, troubleshoots issues and champions ongoing improvement in quality and throughput.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Welding Engineering, Automation or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with welding processes and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints and electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic schematics.

Responsibilities

• Identify and drive continuous improvement plans for equipment performance and safety.
• Troubleshoot issues, implement improvements and countermeasures.
• Lead design, procurement, installation and testing of welding equipment and tooling.
• Define operating parameters and maintain documentation for machinery and tooling.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering and management.
• Support production with process optimization and reliability initiatives.

Job Overview:The Welding Engineering Specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining plant programs related to GMAW, spot welding and projection welding cells. These programs include managing new projects and equipment from the design, procurement and installation to production phases ensuring maximum production quantity and quality and support for repair.The Welding Engineering Specialist will drive efficiencies, and challenge the status quo while introducing and testing alternative methods to improve efficiency and reliability of equipment. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and appreciates the autonomy and ownership of the GMAW, spot welding and projection welding equipment from end to end. The Engineering Welding Specialist will work closely to ensure smooth and efficient operations while promoting a team environment and improving all methods.Responsibilities include, but not limited to:Identifies and drives continuous improvement plans to ensure overall equipment performance (quality, health and safety, efficiency and reliability)Troubleshoot issues, implement counter measures and/or improvementsEngage with the Engineering and Management teams prioritize work at all stages, from research and development to design and manufacturing.Investigate, research and propose cost effective equipment modifications to improve machine reliability, health and safety, product quality and throughput.Writes technical specifications for the procurement of equipment, tooling and utilitiesLead the design, construction, acceptance testing and installation for equipment and toolingDefine the operating process parameters for equipment and toolingParticipate in the maintenance documentation for equipment (spare parts list, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting guide, lockout procedure, etc.)Participate in the manufacturing of prototype parts and communication of lessons learnedSet up all equipment in Welding for all new jigs/processes for productionKey skills and Characteristics:Machine integration experience would be an assetCAD experience (Inventor, AutoCAD) is desirableStrong skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new systems and tools quicklyAble to operate a variety of machine tools, i.e., MiG/stick welders, lathes, milling machines, hand tools etc. is an asset.Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environmentPossess excellent leadership and teamwork abilities and organizational skillsAble to read/interpret blueprints, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematicsStrong written and oral communication skillsAbility to work within a cross-functional teamEducation:Degree/Diploma in either Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Welding Engineering, Automation and Robotics or equivalent work experienceProficient reading and writing.Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office (ie.
