Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is a leading Canadian nuclear engineering group seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to lead NSP process-system design for CANDU reactors in Canada. The role centers on design solutions, systems authority, and mentoring across multidisciplinary teams.

Ideal candidates have 20+ years in CANDU nuclear design/analysis, with strong knowledge of heat transport and auxiliary systems, and security clearance eligibility. Hybrid work culture and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical activities, provide design solutions, resolve critical design challenges for CANDU NSP process systems, structures and components.
• Act as authority for NSP systems.
• Provide technical supervision, guidance, mentorship, and leadership related to NSP system design and operation.
• Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
• Support Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress and project planning.
• Interface with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to company quality program.
• Prepare and/or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants; e.g., Design Calculation, Design Requirements, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, System Code Classification, Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations.
• Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
• Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.

Overview

Your role

The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Lead technical activities, provide design solutions, resolve critical design challenges for new, updated and modified Candu Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) process systems, structures and components.
• Act as authority for NSP systems.
• Provide technical supervision, guidance, mentorship, and leadership related to NSP system design and operation.
• Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
• Support Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress and project planning.
• Interface with internal and external stake holders.

About you

• Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
• A minimum of 20 years of experience and 10 years leading teams in CANDU nuclear process-system design/analysis, providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear power plants, particularly on the Heat Transport and Auxiliary systems.
• Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.
• Must have excellent technical/practical skills and solid understanding of CANDU design to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
• Experience performing heat balance and thermalhydraulic evaluations.
• Experience in nuclear process system design and layout.
• Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design; e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar.
• Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, and REGDOC-2.5.2.
• Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear-power-plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
• Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
• Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
