Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a senior engineer to lead NSP design activities for CANDU plants. You will provide design solutions for NSP processes, act as the system authority, and mentor engineering teams across projects. Responsibilities include thermalhydraulic evaluations, progress updates, and ensuring adherence to codes and standards.

Ideal candidates hold a P.Eng. in Ontario with 20+ years in nuclear process-system design, and strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder interfacing

Qualifications

  • Professional engineer licensed in Ontario with strong design leadership.
  • 20+ years in CANDU nuclear process-system design/analysis.
  • Experience leading teams on NSP heat transport and auxiliary systems.
  • Proven ability to resolve complex engineering challenges and oversee documentation.
  • Familiarity with CSA/ASME standards and nuclear plant procedures.

Responsibilities

Overview

Your role

The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Lead technical activities, provide design solutions, resolve critical design challenges for new, updated and modified Candu Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) process systems, structures and components.
  • Act as authority for NSP systems.
  • Provide technical supervision, guidance, mentorship, and leadership related to NSP system design and operation.
  • Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
  • Support Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress and project planning.
  • Interface with internal and external stake holders.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality program.
  • Prepare and /or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants; e.g., Design Calculation, Design Requirements, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, System Code Classification, Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations.
  • Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
  • Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
About you
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience and 10 years leading teams in CANDU nuclear process-system design/analysis, providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear power plants, particularly on the Heat Transport and Auxiliary systems.
  • Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.
  • Must have excellent technical/practical skills and solid understanding of CANDU design to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Experience performing heat balance and thermalhydraulic evaluations.
  • Experience in nuclear process system design and layout.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design; e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar.
  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, and REGDOC-2.5.2.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear-power-plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
  • Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
