Overview

AtkinsRéalis is hiring a Senior Equipment Engineer Specialist to support engineering services for Nuclear Power Plants in a matrix organization.

Your role

• Provide mechanical and equipment engineering support with the preparation of technical deliverables, including technical specifications, test procedures, commissioning plans, and registration design submissions for NPP components and mechanical systems.
• Perform conceptual and detail design activities for mechanical systems, including flow sheets, detail drawings, equipment arrangement/layouts, and sizing and selection of mechanical components for nuclear steam plants.
• Coordinate large‑scale projects of considerable technical and commercial complexity.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, testing, and commissioning tasks.
• Review design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents, and drawings for design verification.
• Define project scope, monitor and report progress, and communicate with clients.
• Interface with other engineering disciplines to obtain data and resolve design issues.
• Conduct technical, conceptual, and detail design meetings with peers, clients, and suppliers.
• Provide pre‑order and post‑order engineering support, including review of client requirements, applicable documents, codes and standards, cost estimating, proposal preparation, and review of engineering quotation requests and technical evaluations.
• Guide drafting staff and oversee interfacing disciplines.
• Conduct site visits at nuclear generating stations and suppliers.
• Assist quality surveillance, manufacturing, assembly, and testing with non‑conformances.
• Review and approve suppliers’ capabilities to fabricate required components within applicable requirements.
• Evaluate the completeness and status of delivered equipment.
• Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company procedures.
• Consult on and approve engineering quotation packages and purchase requisitions.
• Assist other engineers and branch manager with daily engineering activities.

About You

• Engineering degree from an accredited university in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
• Specialist in one type of equipment or component.
• Registered Professional Engineer in a Canadian province, qualified to seal mechanical and chemical engineering documents.
• Minimum 15 years of experience, including at least 5 years as a Senior Design Engineer in the nuclear industry, in mechanical design of industrial machines, automation equipment, or equipment engineering with knowledge of pumps, fans, motors, valves, heat exchangers, steam generators, pressure vessels, etc.
• Experience working in or performing design work for a nuclear facility licensed in Canada or outside Canada.
• Specific knowledge of pressure vessels, valves, ventilation systems applicable to nuclear power stations.
• Working knowledge of nuclear pressure boundary codes and standards, including CSA N285.0 and ASME Sections III.
• Solid understanding of equipment sizing, selection, and troubleshooting.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Willingness to travel and potentially work onsite as required.

Additional, Preferred Qualifications

• Qualification as a Specialized Professional Engineer to ASME Section III Appendix XXIII within the last five years.
• Experience with CSA B51, ANSI B31.1, ASME Section VIII, and other nuclear‑plant applicable standards or regulatory guides.
• Knowledge of pressure boundary work, including design, analysis, code classification, and non‑destructive examination.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Knowledge of seismic and environmental qualification methods.
• Presentation and public speaking skills.
