About the Role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full‑time Specialist Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to join our dynamic DEI team. The DEI function is responsible for delivering and operationalizing a sustainable DEI strategy and roadmap for the organization. The team works closely with senior leaders, employees, and stakeholders to advance DEI across the organization and within the broader health care landscape.
Responsibilities
- Leverage your understanding of DEI to support the manager in the execution of assigned initiatives, serving as a resource to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and providing support and guidance to business owners on specific DEI issues.
- Assist in the development and delivery of DEI education and training, and support the manager and the DEI team in working collaboratively with all components of Canadian Blood Services to create processes and advance initiatives that identify and remove systemic barriers.
- Support the approval and execution of specific DEI and/or reconciliation initiatives, including developing execution plans and communications.
- Review low‑impact communication resources and process changes to ensure DEI principles are considered and integrated.
- Support the ERGs in planning and delivering events, activities, programs, and initiatives, ensuring meaningful interaction and engagement; respond to issues that arise within an ERG.
- Support the planning and implementation of the annual ERG symposium.
- Design and develop education and learning resources and tools that support DEI education across the organization; deliver DEI workshops and training to a variety of audiences.
- Plan, implement, and execute cultural observances and DEI initiatives, events, and programs.
- Develop metrics and evaluation tools to measure and monitor the effectiveness of DEI and ERG programs and initiatives.
- Create surveys, reports, and presentations; translate and interpret data into written reports, charts, graphs, and tables.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Desired Education and Skills
- Completion of post‑secondary education in a related subject (e.g., social science, sociology, anthropology, women’s studies, Indigenous studies, social work, human resources management).
- Previous expertise in advancing DEI principles and supporting equity‑deserving groups.
- Minimum of 3 years of related professional experience within a complex organization.
- Sound research and analytical skills with the ability to identify recommendations and opportunities from data.
- Previous experience in event and program planning and implementation.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online collaboration tools (e.g., Viva Engage).
- Proficient computer and technical literacy and competency with various business software applications such as spreadsheets, documents, and presentation tools.
- General knowledge of anti‑oppression, equity, diversity, anti‑racism, accessibility/UDL, and inclusion principles.
- Demonstrate a high level of personal and professional integrity and commitment to the organization and its values; model ethical, respectful, and collegial conduct.
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person or member of an equity‑deserving group is preferred.
