About the role

Join the Multi‑Unit Borrower Financial Analysis (MUBFA) team within the Business and Portfolio Operations Division, led by Sook Yoon, in the Specialist, Credit Analysis position, where we provide credit opinions on large borrowers in support of Underwriting Operations. In this role, you will identify, analyze and assess the risks on large borrowers and provide a recommendation on CMHC’s continued insurance business.

Please note that there are two available vacancies : one with a duration of up to 18 months, and another with a duration of up to 24 months.

What you’ll do
  • Prepare credit risk assessments of applicants supporting the Multi‑Unit programs.
  • Review financial statements and organizational structure, calculate financial ratios, and prepare / present a credit risk report to management.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to appropriate staff and management on applicants’ creditworthiness.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with key stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the operational environment in order to influence complex business decisions.
  • Perform, document, and guide ad‑hoc financial analysis and provide analytical assistance to various internal stakeholders.
What you should have
  • An undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in financial risk management, with demonstrated expertise in :
  • Credit risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Commercial Mortgage lending practices and Real estate market dynamics
  • Underwriting standards and guidelines
  • Loan structuring and portfolio analysis
  • Collateral evaluation and risk exposure analysis
  • A proven ability to independently assess complex credit scenarios, applying deep industry knowledge and sound judgment to support decision‑making.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the capacity to think strategically and respond effectively in high‑pressure situations.
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles and standards, including their application in financial risk contexts.
  • Familiarity with credit risk management frameworks, policies, and methodologies used in regulated financial environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalism, business acumen, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
It would be great if you also had
  • A CPA, CFA or CIA professional designation or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated Audit experience is an asset.
