Job summary

A leading aerospace company in Dorval seeks a Contracts Specialist for Bombardier Defense to negotiate and draft complex agreements related to private jets. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of experience in the aviation or defense industry, strong legal drafting skills, and be bilingual in French and English. This role offers extensive responsibilities in contract negotiation as well as opportunities for international travel.

Qualifications

  • Experience in negotiation of commercial transactions and drafting agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Support negotiation of cross-border agreements for private jets.
  • Draft and negotiate aircraft purchase and modification agreements.
  • Provide legal support to internal and external customers.
  • Initiate correspondence with customers and follow up as needed.

Skills

Proven experience in aviation and/or defense industry
Knowledge of U.S. government Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs)
Strong drafting skills in English
Bilingual in French and English

What are your contributions to the team?
  • Support and/or lead the negotiation of multi‑million dollar cross border agreements related to the sale of private jets for special missions around the world. You will be responsible for drafting complex and specialized terms and conditions that balance Bombardier’s risk and the needs of our unique customers.
  • Draft and negotiate an array of agreements such as aircraft purchase agreements, data license agreements, engineering services agreements, and aircraft modification agreements.
  • Support aircraft delivery objectives by providing ongoing commercial and/or legal support to internal and external customers.
  • Drive business results by anticipating risks and, in concert with internal stakeholders, initiate creative and effective mitigation plans to protect aircraft delivery schedules.
  • Engage with management to raise unresolved contractual risks in a timely way.
  • Initiate correspondence to customers, including invoices, in accordance with the purchase agreement and ensure appropriate follow‑up.
  • Contribute to process improvement and governance activities related to the functions of the department.
  • Be presented with opportunities to travel internationally.
How to thrive in this role?
  • Proven experience or knowledge of the aviation and/or defense industry is required, as is knowledge of U.S. government Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARs).
  • You are able to combine your business acumen with your risk mitigation abilities.
  • You have a university degree in law or business. Having an MBA would be considered an asset, though not a requirement.
  • You have at least ten to fifteen (10‑15) years’ experience working in a law firm or a large corporation.
  • You have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the negotiation of commercial transactions and drafting of commercial agreements.
  • You are a leader and autonomous.
  • You possess strong interpersonal and persuasion skills.
  • You have strong drafting skills in English.
  • You have the ability to work flexibly, extended and/or irregular working hours in line with business demands, together with an ability to travel on short notice.
  • You are bilingual in French and English. Knowledge of a third language is an asset.
