Job summary

Mamu Tshishkutamashutau Innu Education in Labrador seeks a Pervasive Needs Instructor to support students with exceptionalities across primary to secondary levels. • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to share progress and coordinate needs such as transportation and illness-related adjustments.
• Collaborate with teachers, school staff, families, and external agencies to coordinate support.
• Apply knowledge of Innu culture and lifestyle when supporting students and building relationships.
• Reflect on instructional practice, follow direction from the Pervasive Needs Lead, and perform related duties.

About The Role

We are seeking a Pervasive Needs Instructor to join our educational team. Reporting to the Department Head of Student Services and school administration, the Instructor provides educational support to students with exceptionalities in primary, elementary, and secondary school.

The Pervasive Needs Instructor supports the implementation of Individual Program Plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and monitors student progress. Working with teachers, families, and education and health professionals, the Instructor helps students build skills, independence, and positive social relationships in a safe learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Individualized Instruction: Deliver appropriate curriculum, and plan lessons and functional learning activities that support each student's development
• Individual Plans and Progress: Implement Individual Program Plans and IEPs in collaboration with teachers and other professionals; assess and document student progress
• Learning Environment: Create a safe, supportive learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, independence, and self-motivation
• Behavioural Support: Review student behaviour, implement behaviour management plans, and respond to behavioural crises according to established response plans
• Family Communication: Maintain regular contact with parents and guardians to share progress and coordinate daily adjustments, including transportation and illness-related needs
• Collaboration and Consultation: Work with classroom teachers, school staff, families, and external agencies to coordinate support and enhance student learning
• Cultural Responsiveness: Apply knowledge of Innu culture and lifestyle when supporting students and building relationships with families and the school community
• Professional Practice: Reflect on instructional practice, seek professional growth opportunities, follow direction from the Pervasive Needs Lead, and perform other related duties as required

Requirements

Qualifications

• Completion of a post-secondary program at a recognized institution
• Qualifications in education, early childhood education, or a health-related field are considered a strong asset

Mandatory Requirements

• Legal entitlement to work in Canada
• Provision of a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (current within the last 6 months)

Experience

• Related experience supporting students with exceptionalities and individualized learning needs is an asset
• Experience implementing individual learning plans, monitoring progress, or supporting behaviour management is an asset
• Experience working in northern, rural, or Indigenous communities is considered a strong asset
