Job description

The Network Solution Architect is responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure IT infrastructure solutions that align with J.D. Irving, Limited’s strategic goals. This role requires deep technical expertise in networking and enterprise architecture, with a focus on delivering high-performance, cost-efficient, and secure solutions. The position involves strategic influence on divisional and enterprise architecture decisions.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

This position requires full-time on-site presence.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 5–7 years of experience in a similar role, with 10+ years in a professional IT environment
  • TOGAF certification
  • Experience in enterprise-scale network deployments and solution design
  • Strong technical background with excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, QoS, IPv4/IPv6)
  • Experience with hybrid cloud networking (Azure VNet peering, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway)
  • Familiarity with SDN, VPNs, firewalls, and network security best practices
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience creating design documents for solutions and working in diverse IT environments

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement end-to-end network infrastructure solutions (LAN, WAN, SDN, Cloud Networking)
  • Contribute to domain-level infrastructure strategy and reference architecture
  • Ensure alignment with JDI Enterprise Architecture practices and standards
  • Evaluate and optimize network performance, cost efficiency, and security
  • Lead complex infrastructure projects and maintain technical integrity
  • Implement disaster recovery and high availability solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Solution Designers, Divisional Architects, and Shared Services
  • Develop, coach and educate other Solution Architects and Solution Designers
  • Maintain architectural documentation and solution designs
  • Ensure compliance with JDI IT risk and regulatory mandates
  • Manage relationships with key vendors and service providers
