Overview

Cormorant Utility Services specializes in providing complete Engineering, Procurement and Construction of High Voltage electrical installations. Position: EPTCON Technical Services Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Solar Operations Technician to join our team at a utility-scale solar power plant in Cayuga, Ontario. This on-site role involves the daily operation and maintenance of the solar facility, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency and contributing to sustainable energy solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and operate solar power plant systems to ensure continuous and efficient energy production.
  • Perform regular inspections and diagnostic tests on inverters, transformers, PV modules, and other plant equipment.
  • Identify and address issues or faults in the solar array, electrical systems, or monitoring equipment promptly.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine preventative maintenance on all plant equipment, including inverters, transformers, and switchgear; implement and follow a scheduled maintenance plan to maximize plant availability and performance; keep accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and corrective actions taken.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and standards, maintain a safe working environment, maintain and update safety certifications, and conduct safety audits and inspections with management reporting of hazards or concerns.
  • Technical Support and Reporting: Assist in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues, work with engineering teams as needed; prepare detailed reports on plant performance, maintenance activities, and equipment status; collaborate with technicians and engineers to optimize operations and implement improvements.
  • Client and Stakeholder Interaction: Work professionally with clients and stakeholders, provide clear communication on plant status, ongoing activities, and issues, and ensure client requirements and expectations are met, maintaining high service standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical operations and maintenance, or equivalent.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar power plants or renewable energy facilities (solar, wind, hydro) is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic equipment, including solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, protection systems, and monitoring/control technologies.
  • Relevant certifications in electrical safety, operations and maintenance, high-voltage systems, or renewable energy are preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.
