Job summary

Salesforce, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Core Database Internals Engineer to help design, implement, and optimize large-scale, cloud-native database systems.

You will work on distributed systems critical for the company’s data-intensive products and services in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Candidates should have strong CS fundamentals, 6+ years in systems or database internals, and proficiency in Java or C.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in CS or equivalent practical experience.
• MS or PhD in databases or distributed systems is a plus.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems.
• 6+ years in systems or database internals programming.
• 6+ years designing, building, and supporting large-scale systems.
• Deep expertise in distributed computing (architecture, communication, consensus, transactional protocols).
• Strong understanding of OS concepts: multithreading, memory, networking, storage, performance, scale.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication with a results-focused mindset.
• Ability to learn quickly and deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced, agile team.
• Strong Java or C programming skills.

• Generate ideas to improve robustness and performance.

The Experience

Are you a distributed systems expert passionate about building large-scale database technologies that support relentless growth and innovation?

We're looking for experienced Core Database Internals Engineers with a strong background in database internals and distributed systems to join a team responsible for architecting, developing, and testing the next generation of cloud-native database. You'll join a team of highly skilled, motivated software engineers and database experts, designing and developing robust, highly scalable software products to support Salesforce's rapid growth.

You'll need familiarity with database internals, distributed systems, or networking; interest in systems programming; strong software engineering skills; and enthusiasm for working on complex, highly concurrent, scalable, and resilient systems. You should have a track record of end-to-end ownership of architecture, design, implementation, monitoring, testing, and product support on large, mission-critical systems at petabyte scale.

Areas you may work on include logging/recovery, distributed lock management, distributed transactions, networking, cluster management, replication, high availability, monitoring, and serviceability. We work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, agile environment. We're a hybrid team that values end-to-end service ownership - from concept to architecture, design to implementation, and testing to deployment and customer support.

• 6+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting large-scale systems..
• Deep expertise in distributed computing (e.g., system architecture, communication, distributed consensus, and transactional protocols)..
• Strong understanding of low-level operating system concepts, including multi-threading, memory management, networking, storage, performance, and scale..
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a results-oriented approach and good ideas for innovation..
• Ability to learn quickly and deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced, dynamic, agile team environment..
• Strong Java or C programming skills..
