The Versaterm Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) is a product that is both agency and community facing that registers and tracks evidence and potential evidence collected by various public safety systems. The system allows viewing, sharing, and auditing of all digital files collected within, and provides a web portal as well as a robust set of backend APIs to service the various products that will use the DEMS system as their primary digital evidence repository.

The Role

As aSoftware Engineer II, you willberesponsible fordesigning, developing, andmaintainingsoftware applications, working on both backend and frontend systems, and contributing to the overall growth and innovation of our public safety product offerings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions while continuously improving your technicalexpertise.

This role is a full-stack role with a focus towards REST implementation in the Python Flask framework.

What You ’ll Do
  • Design, implement, test, andmaintainhigh-quality software solutions that align with business needs and project requirements.
  • Work closely with product owners, designers, and other engineers to understand product requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Implement back-end systems that support various web applications as well as integrations with other platforms.
  • Ensure code quality by writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code. Perform unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, production issues, and technical problems.
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of software applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Stay up to date with company standards, technologies, and best practices, and apply them to improve the development process and product functionality.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, reviewingcode andofferingconstructive feedback to foster team growth.
  • Participate in the team’s development process, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support teamobjectives, departmental needs, and overall organizational priorities.
What You ’ll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, ora relatedfield, or equivalent industry experience and training.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Proficiencyin Python and/or TypeScript
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar.
  • Experience with Git and other version control systems.
  • Familiarity with unit testing and integration testing frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills with a focus on problem-solving and solution delivery.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices, including Scrum or Kanban.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Impress Us With
  • Experience with cloud services like AWS or Azure.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins,AzureDevOps, etc..), Docker, Kubernetes, or other DevOps tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in microservice implementation and deployment.
  • Experience designing or working with API’s, API based architecture,API Documentation,and API Management tools.
  • Familiarity with AI tooling in development workflows.

This position requires security clearances due to the nature of our work with public safety agencies. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must successfully obtain and maintain a Reliability security clearance from the Government of Canada. Additionally, candidates must comply with the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and pass a comprehensive, fingerprint-based background check.
