Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a Software Engineer - Global Payments Engineering in Toronto, Ontario. The role focuses on designing, developing, and implementing applications using Shell Scripting, Python, and Java technologies, with emphasis on IBM Managed File Transfer for payment processing systems.

You will join a cross-functional Agile team, perform testing, and design robust, scalable solutions. The position requires willingness to participate in production support and on-call pager duty at least

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, business, Information sciences or other related field
• Experience building microservices, web services and SOAP
• Proficient with JSON and XML data formats
• Willing to perform production support and pager duty at least one week per month
• Experience with SDLC and agile delivery methodologies
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement applications using Shell Scripting, Python and Java technologies
• Work with IBM Managed File Transfer to support payment processing systems
• Perform testing of new software releases to ensure no impact to existing code
• Partner with cross-functional teams to design solutions for business requirements
• Ensure solutions are robust, scalable and efficient for business needs

The Role

The Software Engineer, Global Payment Technology, contributes to the overall success of the Global Payment Technology globally by designing, developing, and implementing applications using Shell Scripting, Python, java technologies (e.g. SpringBoot, Hibernate, JPA, etc.) and majorly IBM Managed File Transfer to support business requirements for payment processing systems.

• Possess good knowledge on COBOL, Informix Database concepts
• Proficient in using Unix, AIX, Windows Operating system
• Knowledge on backend webservices, SOAP and communication protocol (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2, Connect Direct)
• Conduct testing of new software releases to ensure successful implementation with no impact to existing code base
• Partner with other functional and delivery teams to research and design the appropriate solution for the different business requirements.
• Ensures quality of the solutions are robust, scalable, and efficient to meet the needs of the business.
• Ability to learn new technology and being able to do production support and off hours pager duty at least one week every month
• Monitor system performance, troubleshooting and fixing errors
• Work in a cross functional Agile team to deliver core business and regulatory solutions
• Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, business, Information sciences or other related field
• Must have working knowledge of the communication protocols.
• Must have working experience building microservices, webservices and SOAP
• Must have extensive knowledge of different data formats like JSON, XML
• Must be open to do production support and be ready to carry pager for off-hours support for at least one week in a month.
• Must have experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Team is constantly experimenting with new technologies, so it is important to have high level of tolerance for ambiguity
• Have working experience with Agile delivery methodologies.
