Job description

About the Role

Grade Level (for internal use): 11 S&P Global Market Intelligence delivers information-centric capital markets and risk solutions for trading desks and their risk management partners — spanning counterparty credit risk, xVA, market risk, and regulatory compliance. Our products are trusted by buy-side and sell-side institutions worldwide, and we are actively investing in our technology and data platforms to build new revenue-generating solutions powered by open-source, big data, cloud, and emerging AI capabilities. You will join a collaborative, globally distributed engineering team that values technical rigour, pragmatic decision-making, and delivering measurable impact — working a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week from our Toronto office, with flexibility for the remainder of the week.

Responsibilities and Impact
  • Architect and own full-stack product features end-to-end — from design and implementation through automated testing and production support — maintaining accountability for quality, security, and performance at every stage.
  • Build scalable, performant UIs using React and TypeScript, and deliver backend services and REST APIs in Node.js and Java, contributing to a platform that powers financial risk decisions for institutions worldwide.
  • Design, develop, and optimise PostgreSQL schemas and SQL solutions to support complex, data-intensive financial requirements.
  • Lead technical design reviews and architectural decisions, translating intricate financial-risk business requirements into well-structured, maintainable engineering plans — collaborating with product managers and risk specialists across functions.
  • Drive engineering excellence by establishing and evolving practices in testing, code review, CI/CD, observability, and secure development; mentor engineers and shape platform-wide standards.
  • Apply emerging technologies, including agentic AI and AI-enabled tooling, to improve engineering productivity through code generation, automated testing, documentation, and workflow automation.
What We’re Looking For
Basic (Required) Qualifications
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Production experience building and maintaining applications using React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Production experience with Node.js/Express or Java, with a demonstrated track record of delivering across multiple technology stacks.
  • Production experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Demonstrated SQL proficiency and production experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL.
  • Production experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, or Playwright.
  • Demonstrated experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Production experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Demonstrated track record of making and communicating sound technical decisions to both engineering and business stakeholders.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience with Java and Spring/Spring Boot, including cross-stack integration between JavaScript/TypeScript and Java services.
  • Production experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or data-intensive backend services.
  • Domain experience in financial markets, trading, risk management, or regulatory technology; working knowledge of counterparty credit risk, xVA, or market risk.
  • Experience with UI libraries such as Highcharts, DevExtreme, TanStack, or Tailwind; working knowledge of HTML5, web accessibility standards, and frontend performance optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker, CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, and AWS services such as CloudFront, S3, and Okta; production experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrated implementation of application security controls including authentication, authorisation, and data protection.
  • Practical experience with generative AI, large language models (LLMs), AI-assisted development tools, or agentic frameworks.
