Fitch Group, Inc. in Toronto is seeking a solid Software Engineer to join our Ratings Technology team. You will build and enhance mission-critical applications powering analysts across a global credit ratings organization.

You will work on modern full-stack apps, collaborating with product managers and stakeholders. We seek an engineer with deep Python and React expertise, strong fundamentals, and a passion for scalable, user-focused solutions, including AI-powered capabilities.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience building enterprise-grade applications.
• 12+ years of hands-on Python development experience with scalable backend services and APIs.
• 5+ years of hands-on React experience developing modern web applications in production.
• Strong experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frontend practices.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services.
• Solid understanding of OO design, data structures, algorithms, and scalable architecture.
• AI Fluency – experience with integrating AI capabilities including LLMs and prompts.

We'll Count on You To: Design, develop, and maintain full‑stack applications using Python, React, and modern software development practices. Build scalable backend services and APIs that support business‑critical workflows and data‑driven applications. What You Need to Have

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting enterprise‑grade applications.
• 12+ years of hands‑on Python development experience, building scalable backend services, APIs, and data‑driven applications using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar.
• 5+ years of hands‑on React experience developing modern, responsive, and scalable web applications in production environments.
• Strong experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frontend development practices.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and integrating with third‑party services.
• Solid understanding of software design principles, design patterns, object‑oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and scalable system architecture.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and modern software delivery practices.
• AI Fluency – Experience or familiarity with integrating AI‑powered capabilities into software applications, including LLM APIs such as OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, or similar platforms. Understanding of concepts such as prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, and responsible AI practices, with the ability to evaluate and apply AI technologies to solve real business problems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.

What Would Make You Stand Out

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation)
• Familiarity with Apache Spark or other distributed processing frameworks
• Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar data pipeline orchestration tools
• Knowledge of MLOps practices and model deployment
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
• Familiarity with data visualization tools like Qlik Sense, Power BI, Amazon Quicksight

FOR TORONTO ROLES ONLY:

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 180,000 CAD and 200,000 CAD. Actual salaries will be determined on an individualized basis and may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job‑related factors. Base pay is one part of Fitch's total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, long‑term incentives, and other benefits sponsored by Fitch.
