Job summary

Mecka is seeking an experienced Android engineer to build native Android apps that connect our capture hardware, guide recording, and show users their progress on real devices across many phones.

You will optimize performance, battery life, and reliability, work with firmware engineers, and design robust UI flows to keep users on track through disconnections and interruptions.

Qualifications

• Strong Kotlin or Java skills and solid Android lifecycle understanding.

About Mecka AI

Mecka AI is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI.
We design and operate global systems for data capture, data labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used by leading AI labs and robotics companies to train and validate humanoid and embodied AI systems.
We work closely with frontier robotics teams to bridge real-world data, simulation, learning-based systems, and deployed hardware.

The Role

You’ll make Mecka’s capture hardware practical for the people recording the real world. You’ll build the Android applications that connect our devices, guide recording, and show users their progress and how to recover when something goes wrong. The work sits where physical hardware, mobile software and everyday use meet. Getting it right across many phones and operating conditions helps more people contribute high-quality data for robot learning.

What You’ll Do

What You Bring

Must-have:

• 3–4 years of experience building and debugging native Android applications with connected hardware or media features on real devices, with strong Kotlin or Java skills.

• A solid understanding of Android lifecycle, concurrency, permissions, background execution and networking.

• The ability to design reliable app state that preserves user progress when connections or processes are interrupted.

• Hands‑on experience profiling and debugging performance, memory and connectivity on real Android devices.

• The ability to build clear user interfaces and automated tests for important app workflows.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with USB host APIs, UVC cameras, MediaCodec, Camera2 or native C++ integration.

• Experience with device provisioning, recording apps or large file transfers.
