Job description

# Software EngineerJoin our team as engineering hire #1 - build tools & infrastructure for the in-person community economy Apr08Wednesday, April 8th12:00AM - 11:59PMEDTJob based in TorontoApplications reviewed on a rolling basisTickets## Hosted ByWygo Recruiting## About The Hosts**Wygo builds software & support systems for in-person community organizers.**We're building the economic rails, professional networks, and discovery layer that will allow a new class of creators to step up and meet the **exploding demand for real-world experiences.**Today, our ticketing platform is an operational home base for organizers. As we grow, we'll help hosts build their identities, strengthen their economics, and plug into resource-rich partner ecosystems so they can go from organizing one-off events to sustaining vibrant in-person communities long term.### Our TeamWe (Joss & Chris) are the cofounders of Wygo, lifelong hosts, and Systems Design Engineering graduates from the University of Waterloo. We work super hard, love what we do, and have a ton of fun building this company -- we can't wait to welcome awesome new hires onto the team.Joss has been building networks of community organizers since age 14, with her impact recognized by the Pearl Sullivan and TD Scholarship for Community Leadership. She and Chris were lead organizers at Socratica and UW Startups, growing the community to over 3,500 attendees and 100 hosts across 30 locations hosting regular in-person events. She works daily to build the complete support system community organizers need to be successful. Chris has solo-built and maintained websites for multiple creative collectives, reaching over a million visitors. He's built our product from the ground up, is a skilled software engineer and user experience researcher, and brings a healthy dose of camp counsellor energy to the team. We love thinking from first principles and getting to the root of complex problems. We believe in getting our hands dirty *(can be found cleaning up chairs after events)*, using our own product *(we host a MEAN* *scavenger hunt**)*, and letting our personalities shine through in our work. **Most importantly, we're building the world we want to live in.**We are thrilled to be supported by top-tier investors and advisors from N49P, Standup Ventures, Garage Capital, Zero21 Partners, Backbone Angels, and Good Future.## About Event*[NOTE]: THIS IS A JOB POSTING, NOT AN EVENT. We thought it would be fun to run our hiring process through our platform to give applicants a sense of what we've built so far. :)* *Applications are open until April 25th at 11:59pm but will be* ***reviewed on a rolling basis -- Apply ASAP!****---* **The Role**Work directly with Chris (our CTO) to build the tools and infrastructure that will facilitate trust and interactions between thousands of community organizers, partners, and attendees. This role requires a high level of attention to detail on both the micro-interactions that will make our product feel magical and the high-level architectural decisions that will enable us to scale to millions of users.**What you'll do:*** Build with **Next.js**, **Supabase,** and **AWS*** Create scalable architecture to serve thousands (and soon millions!!) of users* Test the product live through event hosting, troubleshoot and solve problems in real time* **Work directly with hosts** **& attendees** to fix bugs and ingest product feedback / feature suggestions* Help us make **product decisions**, prioritize our roadmap and implementation timelines* Understand the **attendee experience** - go to events and enter new communities to empathize with the user who is trying to find belonging in the place they live**What you'll bring:*** **A track record of shipping code.** Whether it's from a full-time job, internships, freelance, side projects, or your own startup, we want to see that you've built production-grade code.* **Experience working at a startup** (or in other high-responsibility environments where you've had to make good decisions with incomplete information / tight time constraints)* Experience with **Next.js**, **Supabase** (Postgres), and **AWS**, or worked with technologies similar to each* **Compulsive improvement** - an itch to sneak in small fixes and leave codebases better than you found them* **Craft & pragmatism** - you have a high quality bar, but you know when good beats perfect* ***Bonus****: Experience leading or growing in-person communities. Former hackathon organizers, tech leads, and community builders bring something to this team that's hard to teach** ***Bonus bonus:*** *You probably have an art drawer, a secret YouTube channel, or an elaborate Minecraft server somewhere in your past (or all three)***What's in it for you:*** **Build meaningful software** - our team cares deeply about craft. We're building features people truly love* **Learn by doing** - database optimizations one day, UX upgrades the next. You'll learn faster here than anywhere else* **Ship code fast** - the only thing between your code and prod is a PR review and a 2-minute deploy. We get code out the door QUICK* **Direct impact** - you get to see in person how the code you ship improves the lives of our users**Who we are:**We're building a team that is driven, ambitious, and kind. We work extremely hard to support our customers (who are some of the most interesting, entrepreneurial, ambitious, and mission driven people in the world). We are incredibly proud to be growing alongside them.We prioritize giving high performers the autonomy and space to grow. Joining us this early means you'll be trusted to make decisions that matter -- if that level of responsibility and learning is exciting to you *(even if it's a bit terrifying)*, you're likely a good fit. If you’re worried you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications (*nobody does)*, still apply. We’re looking to bring a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to the table – don’t self reject, help us get to know you!Our team has a strong in-person, collaborative culture and is based in downtown Toronto.**Compensation**The anticipated salary for this position is $80,000–$160,000 CAD annually, plus equity.
