Job summary

Athennian invites a driven Software Engineer to join our engineering team to design, build, and maintain scalable software, including production AI features such as RAG, vector search, LLM integrations, and autonomous agents.

Reporting to the Sr Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality full-stack solutions and help future-proof our platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering scalable, enterprise-grade apps.
• Startup/scale-up background with fast-paced shipping and iteration.
• Production AI experience shipping and operating AI features in a live product.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools and modern testing/CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Architect & Deliver: Develop, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable software solutions that align with complex business needs.
• Strategic System Design: Participate in technical discussions and contribute to high-level decisions on system architecture.
• Ship Production AI Features: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of real-world AI capabilities (RAG, vector search, LLM integrations, autonomous agents).
• AI-Augmented Development: Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery cycles while maintaining code integrity.
• Collaborative Innovation: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate user needs into innovative features and improvements.
• Quality & Security Governance: Optimize application performance, ensure security and reliability, and conduct thorough code reviews.
• Process Evolution: Identify and resolve technical challenges, propose solutions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes.
• Future-Proofing: Stay up to date with industry trends, specifically LLM integrations and automated testing advancements.
• Technical Mentorship: Guide the team in best practices for modern engineering, from TypeScript typing to AI-prompting for complex refactors.

About the role

We're looking for a driven Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team to contribute to our mission of managing hundreds of thousands of business entities worldwide, empowering our users with a platform that inspires trust. In this role, you will contribute to designing, building, and maintaining scalable software solutions that enhance our platform's functionality and performance. Reporting to the Sr Engineering Manager, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality full-stack solutions, while leading the integration and operation of production AI features (such as RAG, intelligent search, LLM integrations, or agents).

What you'll do

• Ship Production AI Features: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of real-world AI capabilities (e.g., RAG systems, vector search, LLM integrations, and autonomous agents) directly into our customer-facing product.
• AI-Augmented Development: Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery cycles while maintaining code integrity.
• Collaborative Innovation: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate user needs into innovative features and improvements.
• Quality & Security Governance: Optimize application performance, ensure security and reliability, and conduct thorough code reviews to maintain high code quality.
• Process Evolution: Identify and resolve technical challenges, propose solutions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes.
• Future-Proofing: Stay up to date with industry trends, specifically LLM integrations and automated testing advancements to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies that can enhance our platform’s capabilities.
• Technical Mentorship : Guide the team in best practices for modern engineering, from sophisticated TypeScript typing to efficient AI-prompting for complex refactors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building scalable, enterprise-grade applications.
• Startup/Scale-Up Background: Experience navigating fast-paced software startup environments where shipping and iterating quickly is essential.
• Production AI Experience: Proven track record of shipping and operating real-world AI features in a live product (e.g., RAG, LLM integrations, vector search, or AI agents) not just using AI coding tools.
• Modern Tooling & Testing: Fluent with AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Copilot), automated testing (Jest, Cypress, Playwright), CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker).

Nice to Have Skills

• Databases & Vector Search: Solid relational/NoSQL foundation alongside experience with vector search (e.g., MongoDB Atlas Vector Search) or search indexing.
• Security & Communication: Security-first mindset for handling sensitive corporate data and the ability to explain technical/AI trade-offs to non-technical partners.
