Overview

Software Development Engineer, AFT Multis Sortation. Do you ever wonder how the packages show up at your door when you ordered from Amazon? Amazon’s global fulfillment business is one of the largest and most complex operations in the world. Our technologically advanced warehouses are at the center, forming the invisible back half of Amazon that turns your click of a button into a product at your door. Amazon Sortation Technologies enable the flow of inventory into and out of warehouses and the consolidation of items for a shipment. This role involves building algorithms that predict the state of downstream systems and making decisions in real time, owning design and development of distributed systems on the AWS platform, and scaling systems to handle hundreds of thousands of concurrent transactions.

You will influence system design and implementation to ensure the best user experience for maximum adoption. You will contribute to a wide range of projects in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment and be part of a world-class engineering team solving challenging problems at scale. A commitment to teamwork, hustle, and strong communication skills is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Develop the next generation of systems for Amazon Fulfillment Technologies, including directing containers on sorters and workcells.
  • Scale systems to handle hundreds of thousands of concurrent transactions.
  • Own design and development of distributed systems on the AWS platform.
  • Influence system design and implementation for reliable, scalable, high-performance services.
  • Collaborate across teams in a fast-paced environment to enable adoption and delivery of solutions.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon’s package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
