Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or similar discipline, and 0–2 years of software development experience, or 3 years of experience.
Foundational knowledge of software development concepts, data structures, and application design.
Ability to design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document appropriately scoped software components.
Understanding of secure coding principles and willingness to follow established security practices.
Ability to collaborate with technical team members and communicate progress clearly.

Responsibilities

Develop and enhance Core Java desktop application capabilities for Jupiter Subsurface workflows.
Translate product requirements and software architecture into maintainable, testable Java implementations.
Design, code, test, debug, and document desktop components within an established architecture.
Investigate defects, identify root causes, and implement appropriate fixes.
Follow secure coding standards and participate in code reviews to improve quality.
Create and maintain unit/integration/ Regression tests where applicable.
Collaborate with Product Management, Software Architects, developers, and QA to clarify requirements.
Document implementation decisions and testing coverage; build knowledge of subsurface workflows.

About the Role

The Core Java Software Developer will design, develop, test, and maintain desktop software used in subsurface and geoscience engineering workflows. Working on Jupiter Subsurface applications, the developer will translate product requirements and architectural direction into secure, reliable, and maintainable Java application capabilities.

This role is suited to a software developer who combines Core Java or desktop application development experience with an interest in scientific and engineering software. Depending on experience and level, the developer may contribute to application design, implementation, automated testing, troubleshooting, code quality, and the continued development of complex technical applications.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and enhance Core Java desktop application capabilities for Jupiter Subsurface engineering and geoscience workflows.
Translate product requirements and software architecture into maintainable, testable, and secure Java implementations.
Design, code, test, debug, and document desktop application components within an established software architecture.
Investigate software defects, identify root causes, and implement appropriately scoped corrections.
Apply object-oriented design principles and structured problem-solving techniques to scientific and engineering software challenges.
Create and maintain unit, integration, automated regression, or other appropriate software tests.
Follow secure coding standards and participate in the identification, triage, and remediation of application-security findings.
Participate in code reviews and incorporate technical feedback to improve software quality, maintainability, and development practices.
Collaborate with Product Management, Software Architects, developers, and quality stakeholders to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.
Maintain technical documentation covering assigned components, implementation decisions, testing, and issue resolution.
Build knowledge of subsurface workflows, geoscience applications, and the technical needs of engineering-software users.

Qualifications

Required

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline and 0 to 2 years of related software development experience, or 3 years of related software development experience.
Foundational knowledge of software development concepts, programming practices, data structures, and application design.
Ability to design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document appropriately scoped software components.
Ability to analyze software defects and apply structured problem-solving techniques with guidance when needed.
Understanding of secure coding principles and willingness to follow established application-security practices.
Ability to collaborate with technical team members, receive development guidance, and communicate progress or technical issues clearly.

Preferred

The following qualifications are preferred and are not additional minimum requirements.
Experience gained through internships, academic projects, research, open-source contributions, or professional software development.
Exposure to automated testing, regression testing, source control, code review, or continuous integration practices.
Familiarity with software used for engineering, scientific, geoscience, data-intensive, or technical workflows.
Exposure to Agile or iterative software development practices.
Interest in learning subsurface technology, energy workflows, and scientific software development.

Candidates who possess qualifications exceeding the minimum job requirements may be considered for higher-level positions based on experience, additional qualifications, demonstrated capabilities, and current business needs. Depending on education, experience, and skill level, candidates may be eligible for roles ranging from Associate Software Developer, Subsurface Applications to Software Developer, Subsurface Applications or Senior Software Developer, Subsurface Applications.
