Job summary

Verily Health is seeking a Platform Engineer to drive the implementation of a major platform capability and contribute to cloud-native infrastructure used by 600+ engineers.

You will work with Kubernetes, VSCode, Backstage, Terraform and AI-driven tooling while collaborating across teams to deliver scalable, secure solutions. Strong software engineering background and cloud experience are required.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience with 3+ years in production software engineering.
  • Experience with cloud tech: GCP/AWS/Azure or other providers, GitHub Actions, VSCode, Kubernetes, Backstage, or related tools.
  • Strong data structures, algorithms, and system design with excellent debugging skills.
  • Strong communication skills for feature discussions, issue investigations, and blockers.

Responsibilities

  • Own the implementation of a significant platform capability or set of capabilities.
  • Help design and build capabilities leveraging cloud-native open source components (Kubernetes, VSCode, Backstage, Terraform) and AI.

Description

The Developer Platform team is responsible for building cloud-native, self-service developer infrastructure that enables the software development lifecycle for over 600 engineers at Verily. We furnish a speedy, delightful, scalable, and secure developer journey through integrated capabilities in AI, IDE extensions, application templates, developer portals, CI/CD and other functional areas.

We are a product-oriented, highly-effective, world-class platform engineering team that has a large positive impact on the product development process at Verily. As part of this team, you will work closely with engineers who have worked on successful projects like Kubernetes, Istio and Firebase.

Responsibilities
  • Own the implementation for a significant platform capability or set of capabilities.

  • Participate in the design and development of capabilities that leverage state-of-the-art cloud-native open source components (e.g. Kubernetes, VSCode, Backstage, Terraform) and cutting-edge AI.

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other team members contributing to your objectives.

  • Drive execution through high-quality implementation and set an example of best practices in code health and production (e.g. monitoring, frequent releases, reliable CI).

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in software engineering with 3+ years experience developing and maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure products and services in production in Go, Python, TypeScript, or similar programming languages.

  • Prior experience with cloud technologies: Google Cloud Platform/Amazon Web Services/Azure or other cloud providers, GitHub Actions, VSCode, Kubernetes, Backstage, or related tools.

  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design with strong analytical and debugging skills.

  • Strong communication skills in scenarios like discussing a new feature, investigating a customer issue, and articulating next steps and blockers in a task.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.

  • Experience in building with LLMs to solve business problems.

  • Strong working knowledge of microservices, software delivery platforms, DevSecOps, continuous integration, and release management processes.

  • Familiarity working in a centralized developer platform team.

  • Passionate about developer experience with a high empathy for users.

The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is CAD 120,500-136,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
