Blue J, a Toronto‑based leader in AI for tax professionals, is seeking a Software Developer II to join our high‑performing backend team. You will design and implement critical systems, collaborate with peers, and ship significant features frequently.

We value 5+ years of backend experience, 2+ years with TypeScript, and strong skills in Node.js, Kafka, Postgres, and cloud technologies. This is a remote role that requires applicants to be within driving distance of Toronto for quarterly in‑person

A Note on Location

About The Role

We’re looking for a seasoned software developer who’s excited to contribute to impactful projects and grow alongside a high-performing team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in designing and implementing important systems, while collaborating closely with peers and learning from other engineers. We take on a wide variety of challenges. You could be building user-facing product features, designing new strategies for answering questions, implementing new data pipelines for bringing additional content into our system, designing new search algorithms, or extending our internal data‑mesh infrastructure.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Challenging yourself to design, plan, and deliver new software products, capabilities, and features
• Writing high-quality code and collaborating with teammates to deliver impactful projects in an iterative, customer‑focused way
• Writing clean, maintainable code with well‑structured automated tests, while helping ensure the long‑term health and stability of our systems.
• Giving impactful feedback in an empathetic manner to those around you
• Helping elevate our engineering standards, tools, and practices

Your Skills And Experience

• You have 5+ years of demonstrable backend software development experience with a minimum of 2 years experience working with TypeScript for backend development
• Experience working at a software product company
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• You’ve helped deliver significant initiatives involving multiple developers
• You approach your work with rigour and have an insatiable desire to learn
