Job summary

Softline Technology Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design semantic models and deliver Power BI reports for Ontario government dashboards. The role requires 6+ years of Azure experience including Databricks, DataLake Gen 2, Power BI semantic modeling, and Data Factory with Fabric, plus PySpark and SQL skills.

On-site 8:00-17:00, Mon-Fri, 7.25 hours per day. You will build Direct Lake semantic models, leverage Silver/Gold layers, and develop scalable data pipelines to meet

Qualifications

• 6+ years experience with Azure technologies including Azure Databricks.
• Experience with Azure DataLake Gen 2 and Power BI semantic modeling.
• Proficient in PySpark, Data Factory, and Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong Star Schema or Snowflake data modelling experience.
• Experience building complex data pipelines with Data Factory in Fabric.

Job description

To respond to the priorities of the Government of Ontario through the passage of the Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act 2025, the resource may be partially assigned to Bill 5 related projects or initiatives on an as needed basis.

This position is listed as “Onsite” unless otherwise instructed by the Client; the resource is expected to work 7.25 hours per calendar day between the standard working hours of 8:00-5:00 PM (excluding lunch breaks) every Monday to Friday inclusive at the identified OPS office location.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data and design semantic models
• Transform raw data into silver/gold data for reporting consumption.
• Design, develop, and release deploy Power BI reports and dashboards meeting KPIs including accuracy, reliability and performance.
• Review business requirements (and related materials) to use as input for design/development of reports
• Design technical systems specifications to translate into working, tested applications. This includes developing detailed programming specifications, writing and/or generating code, compiling data-driven programs, maintaining, and conducting unit tests.
• Resolves and troubleshoots technical problems which arise during the use and operation of software packages, including technical assistance in implementation, conversion and migrations.
• Provide specialized skills for developing data access queries
• Works in conjunction with data analysts for developing dashboards and other end user reporting products
• Supports Client’s wide-ranging business information requirements, implementing and supporting OLAP analytical software solutions
• Develops and supports customized query applications which analyze key business data

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience in Azure Data Factory (ADF) v2
• Data Architecture & Engineering: Competency in building Lakehouses and Warehouses, writing optimized PySpark or SQL pipelines, and implementing Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers).
• Data Governance: Data security (row-level/column-level), and data lineage tracking.
