Remitly in Burnaby is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to join the Wallet Product Risk team and build critical fraud controls across platforms. You will collaborate with product, program management, data engineering, and engineering to deliver high‑quality, scalable software solutions.

You will contribute to architecture and roadmaps, participate in code reviews and mentoring, and join an on‑call rotation to keep services reliable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of production‑grade software development experience.
• Strong background in distributed systems, cloud platforms, message brokers, and databases.
• Proficiency in Go, Java/Kotlin, Python, or TypeScript.
• Proactive, analytical mindset with focus on quality and improvement.

About the Role

The Wallet Product Risk team is dedicated to developing risk management controls—such as fraud prevention features—while delivering an industry‑leading customer experience for our wallet and wallet‑adjacent products. As a Software Development Engineer II, you will be a critical member of the team solving customer problems and driving the development and delivery of mission‑critical fraud controls across multiple platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners in product, program management, data engineering, and engineering to simplify complexity, deliver high‑quality, scalable systems, and speed up the rollout of impactful features.

You Will

• Design and build solutions for complex, ambiguous challenges that span multiple technologies and systems (Go, Java/Kotlin, TypeScript, React Native, AWS).
• Partner with product managers, program managers, analysts, and engineers to gather requirements and deliver scalable, high‑quality software solutions.
• Contribute to the architecture and technical roadmap of our software systems, balancing short‑term goals with long‑term scalability and maintainability.
• Contribute to code reviews, sprint rituals, hiring, and mentoring.
• Take part in an on‑call rotation to ensure the reliability and support of the team’s services.

You Have

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of experience writing production‑grade code and delivering robust, scalable software solutions.
• A strong background in modern distributed system architecture, including experience with cloud platforms, message brokers, and various database technologies.
• Proficiency in at least one high‑level programming language such as Go, Java/Kotlin, Python, or TypeScript.
• A proactive, analytical mindset with a passion for solving complex problems and continuously improving systems and workflows.
• A strong commitment to code quality, supported by experience with testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.

Compensation Details

The starting base salary range for this position is $124,000 – $155,000. In Canada, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
