The Opportunity

SAIT is looking for a Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst to join our Information Technology Services team! This role is responsible for ensuring that SAIT’s software assets are properly managed and utilized in full compliance with vendor contracts.

You will recommend, support, and maintain SAM policies and procedures, support software procurement, and manage a comprehensive inventory of software across the institution.

You will be responsible for tracking and updating license data, monitoring usage trends, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the SAM database, while identifying opportunities to optimize license utilization. Additionally, you will play a key role in compliance audits and collaborate with stakeholders to maintain an effective SAM program at SAIT.

The Role
  • Maintain accurate software inventory records, including license keys, entitlements, and site licensing information.
  • Track, analyze, and verify software usage against license agreements to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct software license audits and reconcile deployed instances with vendor contracts, including key dates, costs, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor software expirations, provide reports, and support renewals and decommissioning processes.
  • Analyze usage data to identify opportunities for cost optimization, license harvesting, and improved utilization.
  • Assist with software procurement, budget planning, and forecasting for academic and institutional needs.
  • Generate reports to communicate SAM activities, compliance status, and optimization opportunities.
  • Assess hardware prerequisites for software and coordinate requirements with ITS teams.
  • Manage software-related service tickets to ensure timely resolution.
  • Utilize SAM tools and processes to automate data collection, storage, and reporting.
  • Liaise with vendors to obtain software information, application files, and support license compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 2-year Diploma in the field of Technical and Administrative Management, or related technical area. A Bachelor's Degree would be an asset.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in application licensing or a related role, 3 - 5 years of experience would be an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Software Asset Management (SAM) practices and methodologies.
  • Experience with application license agreements, compliance, and software lifecycle management (deployment, upgrades, retirement).
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Teams).
  • ITIL Foundations Certification or Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) is an asset.
  • Ability to create reports on software consumption and entitlement status.
  • Skilled at identifying license risks and optimization opportunities.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and follow projects through to completion.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive licensing information confidentially.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year

Hours Per Week: 37.5
