POSITION DESCRIPTION

A Social Worker - Quinson Elementary School - 1.0 FTE Community Schools Coordinator - Continuing Contract is required by School District No. 57 (Prince George) effective September 1 2025. The primary role of the coordinator is to enhance the educational social and cultural functioning of at risk students. The coordinator will help children achieve greater balance in their lives by considering the physical emotional and mental needs of the children.

The coordinator is responsible for carrying out the duties under the direction of the school Principal / Vice Principal. The Community School Coordinator will collaborate with school staff students parents and community members to develop co-ordinate supervise and evaluate community school programs and services.

Identifying unique characteristics of school
  • Become familiar with demographics and cultural make up school (discussion with PVPs and other staff PAC SPC)
  • Become familiar with services facilities and community resources within the catchment area
  • Review past records that outline successful programming (this can be done by researching what is documented and by having discussion with all stakeholders)
Community Liaison
  • Acting as the primary staff person for the local governing body in managing all organizational matters
  • Supporting the local governing body in promoting the Community Education concept and Community School model among school PVPs and staff neighbourhood residents community agencies / organizations the business community and local politicians;
  • Liaising between the various governmental bodies and
  • Providing leadership to all aspects of the Community School operation such as :
  • Coordinating the integration of community resources and services
  • Developing partnerships with community organizations and businesses
  • Facilitating fundraising and grants submissions
  • Supporting staff and volunteer involvement
  • Developing programs and services to meet local needs
  • Coordinating community use of facilities
Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Provide support to students and / or parents when appropriate. This support may include but is not exclusive to the following :

  • Self-esteem building
  • Anger management
  • Social skills
  • Parenting skills
  • Drug and alcohol prevention education
  • Transitioning to high school assistance
  • Nutrition and health
  • Cultural awareness / increasing cultural pride and identity
  • Developing supervising assisting and evaluating Community School programs and services
  • Promoting the Community School concept in the community
  • Developing proposals for grants and funding as required
  • Managing budget under the direction of the school Principal / Vice-Principal
  • Implementing and supporting the development of Community School policies
  • Drafting reports as required
  • Recruiting volunteers and facilitators such as :
    • Parents
    • RCMP
    • Red Cross
    • Public Library
    • HRDC
    • Coaches etc.
  • Coordinating food and clothing donation pick up and distribution
  • Liaise between parents students and the school Principal / Vice-Principal
  • Parent room
  • SBT SSST
  • Staff meetings
  • School ground circulation (recess lunch)
  • PAC meetings
  • Consults with parents for the purpose of informing them of services offered by the school district and outside agencies and assist them to access these services if necessary.
  • Coordinate Special Events
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Social Work degree
Desirable Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of Social Work or other related work experience with vulnerable youth
  • Experience working with at risk children and families
  • Ability to work without professional supervision.
  • Experience working with vulnerable youth children and families; this can include family engagement.
  • Experience in organizing facilitating supervising after-school programs with large groups of students in the areas of sport art leadership and community involvement within the school building and within the greater community.
  • Proven experience organizing and facilitating small and large group activities during the school day with school and greater community.
  • Proven successful grant writing to secure additional funding from international national provincial and local organizations.
  • Proven financial management skills for multiple program budgets.
  • Ability to develop working partnerships with multiple community organizations (ie. Canadian Tire financial institutions YMCA etc.)
  • Proven experience in special event organization to accommodate school and district wide events.
  • Skills knowledge and ability to assess situations while they are happening and make adjustments as required.
