Overview

The Lambton Kent District School Board is seeking Registered Social Workers who identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit to support school staff to implement proactive interventions and strategies and build capacity of mental health awareness through education. The Social Workers will work collaboratively with community agencies and partners to ensure seamless and integrated service delivery for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth and their families. The Social Worker will serve as a member of our system LKDSB Multi-disciplinary teams and will liaise with school administration and staff. The LKDSB is committed to championing anti-oppressive education and to providing equitable and culturally relevant support to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. These positions have been created to support that priority. The hiring for these positions will be completed equitably in accordance with the Special Programs provisions of the Ontario Human Rights Code. Qualifications/Experience
  • Successful completion of a Masters Social Work Degree program or equivalent from an accredited university;
  • Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the role of Social Worker or Psychotherapist in a child welfare, educational, medical/psychiatric or other related setting would be an asset;
  • Experience supporting First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth in educational or developmental settings.

Only those who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit will be considered.

Other Key Skills & Knowledge
  • Work in collaboration with school teams to support student well-being and compliment in-class learning by providing resources to classroom teachers and others as appropriate;
  • Partner with school administrators to support preventative pupil absenteeism strategies and to address related issues;
  • Ability to provide social work support to students through anti-racism and anti-oppression framework;
  • Knowledge and awareness, including through lived experience, of the issues that impact First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in education;
  • Support students to develop everyday strategies in order to be successful in the school environment;
  • Knowledge and experience in working with community agencies and partners to ensure seamless and integrated service delivery for youth and their families;
  • Participate as a member of the LKDSB multi-disciplinary team and ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary school team environment;
  • Maintain clear, concise and accurate documentation, protecting privacy and confidentiality, as per the standards and regulations established by the College that the candidate is registered with and adhering to the expectations as established by the LKDSB;
  • Knowledge of and experience in incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and being to support sovereignty seeking students;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently;
  • Experience leading presentations related to the social development of youth;
  • Working with other students as needed;
  • The successful applicant must have access to reliable transportation; travel throughout the district will be required.
