Job summary

Catholic Community Services of York Region is seeking a Contract Social Worker within the Women’s Initiatives to support newcomer and underserved women. The role focuses on crisis intervention, case management, and resource navigation across York Region.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with survivors of gender-based violence or trauma-informed settings.
  • Strong crisis intervention, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities including immigrant and marginalized populations.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality laws, mandated reporting, and social service systems.
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and survivor empowerment.
  • Fluent in English; second language (Farsi, Urdu, Punjabi or Hindi) an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed, client-centered case management and advocacy for women affected by GBV, including safety planning and resource navigation.
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop individualized service plans.
  • Facilitate referrals to housing, legal aid, medical care, mental health counseling, and employment services.
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling while maintaining ethical boundaries.
  • Maintain accurate documentation per funder, program, and organizational standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and supervision.
  • Support outreach and group activities to build community and resilience.
  • Stay current on best practices in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and culturally responsive delivery.

The Social Worker provides direct support to newcomer and underserved visible minority women through crisis intervention, safety planning, case management, and emotional support. The role focuses on helping clients access resources, navigate complex systems, and move toward healing and stability.

Working within a collaborative, survivor-centered team, the Social Worker brings clinical insight and a social justice lens to foster dignity, empowerment, and healing for women from diverse backgrounds

Expected Compensation

Gross salary will be $36.22 per hour based on 37.5 hours per week. All payments are subject to the required statutory employee deductions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed, client-centered case management and advocacy for women effected by GBV, including safety planning, resource navigation, and emotional support.
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop individualized service plans in collaboration with each client.
  • Facilitate referrals to internal and external services, including housing, legal aid, medical care, mental health counseling, and employment assistance.
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term supportive counseling as needed, maintaining appropriate boundaries and ethical practice.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with funder, program, and organizational standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and supervision.
  • Support outreach and engagement efforts, as well as group activities and workshops that build community and resilience among survivors.
  • Stay current on best practices in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and culturally responsive service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work (BSW or MSW) with good, registered standing withOntario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers Ontario
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with survivors of gender-based violence or in trauma-informed, community-based settings.
  • Deep understanding of the dynamics of gender-based violence and the structural barriers that impact survivors.
  • Strong crisis intervention, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities, including immigrant, and other historically marginalized populations.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality laws, mandated reporting, and social service systems.
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and survivor empowerment.
  • Fluent in English is required, with a second language in Farsi, Urdu, Punjabi or Hindi is an asset.
Other
  • Understanding of Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism Frameworks is considered an Asset.
  • Understanding and strict adherence to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Participate in agency fundraising activities as deemed appropriate and necessary.
  • A valid drivers’ license, access to a reliable vehicle and relevant insurance, is mandatory.
  • The incumbent must be bondable and cleared by a police reference check.
Physical requirements
  • Work in a multi-service office environment staffed largely by people from diverse cultures.
  • Duties can involve stress in dealing meeting deadlines, dealing with sensitive and confidential issues, preparing and submitting accurate reports.
  • Confidentiality regarding the agency’s clients and business plan is an absolute requirement.
  • The incumbent in this position frequently communicates with internal and external stakeholders who require information or need support in the community. Must display professionalism and political correctness.
Travel throughout York Region

Willing and able to travel YRand to other assigned locations as required.

Flexible with assigned work hours and locations, including availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
