The School

The role is within our School of Applied Sciences and Technology. The departments within the School are located on our Grande Prairie campus and our Fairview campus. The School offers a variety of programmes in Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences and Animal Health Technology. Through this programming, we offer a variety of certificates, diplomas, university transfer courses as well as a degree in Computing Science.

The Role

The Humanities and Social Sciences Department has launched a social work diploma program in 2025‑2026. The program has a rural northern and Indigenous focus and emphasizes social practice in those contexts.

The Department requires a part‑time faculty member in social work to

  • Work with the program coordinator to develop a field guide and arrange and organize placements for the Social Work Diploma students in the Spring 2026 term.
  • Supervise SW1900 the spring term field experience course for first‑year diploma students, which includes regular seminar meetings to reflect on learning.
  • Teach SW1910 the 15‑hour field experience preparation course in winter to prepare students for SW1900 in the spring.

This part‑time position will commence on November 1 2025. Program delivery is on‑campus in Grande Prairie.

Requirements

A Master of Social Work is required. Professional experience in a variety of social work settings and instruction of post‑secondary programs and courses in Social Work are an asset. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

  • Registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Work.
  • A minimum of 3‑5 years of professional experience in social work practice in diverse settings, particularly in rural, northern and Indigenous contexts.
  • Candidates must be able to apply different instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with different learning styles.
  • Knowledge of current educational technologies (e.g., videoconferencing, learning management systems) is desired.
  • Sensitivity to cultural competence and the promotion of diversity in program activities and curriculum.
  • Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
  • The ability to teach both online and classroom‑based courses.
  • Student‑focused.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
