Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Social Scientist to join our BC Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team on a full-time basis. Based in Vancouver with a flexible hybrid work arrangement, you’ll work on environmental and socio-economic impact assessments across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, mining, and oil & gas.

The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys applying social science methods.

Qualifications

• University degree (graduate degree preferred) in a social science, natural resource management, or related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience with social science research methods (government statistics, surveys, interviews, focus groups).
• Strong team player with multi‑disciplinary project experience.
• Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities, and the public.
• Willing to travel for business and extended working hours as required.
• Excellent work ethic with attention to detail, organization and time management.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Passion and potential for development in this area.
• Commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous learning with proactive problem solving and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Support socio‑economic and land and marine use assessments within environmental impact assessments.
• Conduct secondary research, data collection, and fieldwork with Indigenous Nations, user groups, communities, and the public.
• Analyze and report socio‑economic research findings.
• Support Indigenous and public engagement activities.
• Assist with development of socio‑economic and land and marine use management plans to meet regulatory requirements.
• Support other services such as monitoring, permit applications, social compliance and due diligence.
• Assist senior staff with task coordination, proposals, and technical presentations.
