Job description
Overview

Social Media Coordinator (Part-Time) – Location: South Surrey – West Coast Gardens. Hours: 8:30am–5:00pm | 30–40 hours per week. Pay: $22–24/hr depending on experience. West Coast Gardens is looking for a part-time Social Media Coordinator to bring our garden centre’s story to life online. This role isn’t about big-picture strategy — we already have photography, design, and branding covered. We need someone creative and reliable who can keep our Instagram and Facebook fresh, fun, and consistent.

What You’ll Do
  • Post content across Instagram and Facebook (stories, reels, photos) on a consistent schedule. This will include sales, new & seasonal product, educational posts, fun/creative content, and inspirational posts. Also includes some on-site event work during a weekend each month (some exceptions).
  • Write captions that are friendly, engaging, and on-brand. Able to ask staff or research info about plant care/gardening for products. Use our blog as reference/inspiration for educational posts.
  • Film quality videos of product, plants, and staff (consider lighting, location, sound, story, background, etc.) and do light editing of video content such as quick how-to clips, seasonal highlights, in-store moments, and occasional live videos during events.
  • Capture new products in professional-looking photos. (A lightbox/photobooth can be set up — bonus if you are able to assist in this!)
  • Engage with our audience in a friendly and professional manner through comments, DMs, and shares (in a human voice). Able to ask staff or research answers for gardening/plant care questions. This also includes reposting appropriate stories from influencers/customers/businesses that tag us.
  • Keep posts aligned with brand standards (with support from our design team), always with professional quality and a fun/creative vibe.
  • Use Canva to create stories, including slides with text/graphics or other elements to keep our stories engaging and fresh. Also, be able to use Canva templates we’ve set up for weekly repeating content such as sales.
  • Search and download photos/videos from our extensive archive from previous years (using Filecamp). Able to upload your photos/videos into correct folders.
What You Bring
  • Expert at Instagram and Facebook posting, scheduling (through Meta), and viewer interactions. This includes photos, reels, videos, & stories.
  • Creative eye for photos and short videos. Fabulous at using a phone-camera (or maybe you have your own preference?) and make it look amazing.
  • Strong writing skills and a playful, approachable tone that still sounds professional and human.
  • Organized and consistent — you can keep a schedule.
  • Team player! You can work with staff around the store, as well as our design/marketing team and an occasional influencer, to create social media that reflects our current goals and themes. Able to pitch ideas to team and work collaboratively. Able to respond to suggestions and pivot based on what is working.
  • Experience managing a social media account across platforms is required. We prefer retail or lifestyle, but are open to other genre experience.
