Your Opportunity: RGH Emergency Department is recruiting for newly graduated Registered Nurses (RNs) for entry level positions. These are temporary full-time positions pursuant to Graduate Nurse Transition Program Pilot (GNTPP) provisions and are open to those who have or will graduate with a Baccalaureate of Nursing within the 12 months prior to commencement of the GNTPP and who have not already obtained a regular full-time or regular part-time position with AHS. Applicants must be eligible for registration (including temporary permit) with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). This program is intended for new (within the past year) nursing graduates and is not open to individuals with previous nursing experience who have completed programs such as the Bridge to Canadian Nursing Program or the nursing refresher program following an absence of five years or more or a more advanced nursing degree. During the enhanced orientation phase the Transitional Graduate Nurse (TGN) shall work under the guidance of a clinical guide as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and/or communities within level of competency. The TGN provides input in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, preventing illness, injury and disability or supporting a peaceful death. These positions are supernumerary in nature until such time as the TGN is determined to be ready to independently assume the full scope of RN practice or a maximum duration of 12 months. The TGN will be required to apply for available vacancy positions of no less than .5 FTE and may work as relief once they are determined to be ready to practice independently.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii).
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Eligibility is restricted to Graduate Nurses, Graduate Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who have graduated within 12 months prior to the anticipated start date of the program and who have not yet obtained a regular position with AHS, Covenant Health, or Recovery Alberta. Candidates selected for an interview must review the UNA Letter of Understanding #29 - Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program prior to the interview. Additional Required Qualifications: Current CRNA registration (including temporary permits). Not currently in a regular full-time or regular part-time position with AHS.
Preferred candidates will have at least 6 months of acute care medical/surgical nursing experience post graduation from an Alberta nursing program.
