Job description

Overview

OSI Systems companies have a long history of developing innovative solutions to bring a better quality of life to the world. Our OSI Electronics (OSIE) division is a diversified manufacturer of electronic devices and value-added manufacturing services.

We provide our customers with the manufacturing capabilities and purchasing power of a global Electronics Manufacturing Services provider. By delivering regional and personalized support best provided by a smaller company, we strive to build lasting relationships and create close and valued partnerships with our customers. Our singular focus is to help security experts, clinical professionals and high-tech developers solve real-world problems and issues.

PFC Flexible Circuits Limited, a division of OSI Electronics, is seeking an SMT Operator who will operate, set up, and monitor SMT equipment to assemble flexible printed circuits (FPC) and rigid-flex assemblies per controlled work instructions, travelers, and quality requirements. This includes automated and semi-automated stencil printers, pick-and-place equipment, reflow ovens, solder paste inspection processes, AOI units, and X-Ray equipment.

This individual will support afternoon shift operations (3:30pm - 12:00am).

This position offers a $0.75 per hour shift differential for second shift hours of operation (3:30 pm - 12:00 am).

Responsibilities
  • Operate pick-and-place units (e.g., Panasonic AM, BM, and NPM/NPG as applicable) by loading and verifying programs, validating pick and placement, responding to alarms, and maintaining throughput and placement quality.
  • Set up and operate SMT stencil printers by installing and verifying stencil type and thickness, aligning to fiducials, setting print parameters (squeegee pressure/speed and separation/snap-off), and completing first-print approvals.
  • Set up feeders and materials by staging and verifying components to the BOM and traveler, loading feeders/tape-and-reel, verifying polarity/orientation, performing required feeder checks, and maintaining feeder and lot traceability.
  • Operate AOI and X-Ray inspection equipment as needed by executing programs, verifying coverage, dispositioning findings per criteria, and coordinating defect review and rework routing with Quality/Engineering.
  • Manage solder paste and print quality by differentiating and properly handling water-soluble versus no-clean pastes, verifying lot/expiration and storage/conditioning, performing paste print inspection (e.g., coverage, bridging, smearing, and insufficient paste), and correcting out-of-control conditions.
  • Perform cleaning and basic upkeep by completing stencil underside wipes/cleaning, printer checks, and line/tooling cleaning using approved chemicals and disposal methods.
  • Troubleshoot SMT line issues by clearing stoppages/alarms, performing basic checks and adjustments within training, documenting downtime, and escalating to Maintenance/Engineering as needed.
  • Set up and operate Heller reflow ovens by selecting and verifying recipes, confirming conveyor width/speed and zone temperatures, monitoring output, identifying reflow defects (e.g., insufficient wetting, solder balling, tombstoning, and voiding indicators), and escalating issues as needed.
  • Uphold the company’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with the company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • It is the responsibility of every employee to report to their manager or a member of senior management any quality problems or defects in order for corrective action to be implemented and to avoid recurrence of the problem.
  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.
Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of SMT process flow including print/place/reflow/inspect desired.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and ability to recognize common SMT defects; willingness to stop work and elevate abnormalities.
  • Manual dexterity and careful handling skills for thin and delicate flexible circuits, pallets, and support tooling required.
  • Must be a team player.
